wow... loving your videos. in your live set how are you stringing together tracks on the squarp pyramid? i.e how do you workaround the time it takes to load a new song?

Hi SJ, great sound btw. I noticed you trigger sequential drum beats on the TR8 to build up the loop. Do you do that as well for a live song, or would you dedicate a few Pyramid tracks on channel 10 to play the drums and place it within the sequence order? Cheers!

I have done both, and it's true, the Pyramid makes an excellent drum sequencer in step mode. I prefer to use the machines themselves wherever possible. Thus, the TR-8 is a lot of fun to leave with a few basic rhythms to fall back on, but then in track write mode it becomes a wonderful improvisational tool for live. I am not completely wild about how it sounds - meaning it sounds pretty good, but not really as good as a 909 or an 808 - but the live action of last step, kit changes, and instrument programming live is really fast, and so much fun that I have stuck with it.

This is lovely.. what are you using the Octatrack for primarily in this setup?
@SunshineJones8 жыл бұрын
David, there's no octatrack being used in this experiment. I was just playing around with the Roland SCOOPER and learning about the live looping action. Thought it was pretty cool, so I shared to help inspire you.

I can't quite get my head around how a sequencer works. Say I have a nord lead and the pyramid. Now with the sequencer, do I use the pads to create a sequence of notes through the nord. Then from there while the sequence is playing, can I edit on the fly with the nord to create different textures to the original sequence?

Sequencers does not record sound, pnly sends midi data. In a way sequencer plays the instrument connected to it. So yes after creating the sequence you can change the settings, patches, you can even record these changes if sequencer supports it. About programming the sequencer, most sequencers support midi in. So you can program notes or record your performances and sequencer plays the program back.

@unalienate Have you noticed that SQUARP have released a 4 part series on each of the Pyramid's sequencing modes? Pretty good.

Thanks for this. Any chance you'd do a basic "workflow" video with the Pyramid? Seems like such an awesome piece of gear, precious few (OK, no) good workflow demos! I really want the pyramid to replace my Yamaha RS7000 which is to me (as the mmt-8 is to you), my meat and potatoes sequencer.

+unalienate I want to get a Pyramid to replace my RS7000, too!
