I took my 98 E350 RV for an alignment after some front end work. They are using some state-of-the-art alignment machine but cannot get the alignment set properly. It now has a hard left pull. They have been messing with it for 4 days and can't figure it out! Any advice?
@CarlosMDominguez3 күн бұрын
Was the vehicle pulling before the front end work? Caster readings should be close to the same on both sides, if they are, then may be other problems related to pulling, like a separated tire, dragging brakes or seized ball joint or problems with the steering gear box. If readings are way off, then something is bent, installed backwards or defective. Good luck.

@CarlosMDominguez2 ай бұрын
Buena suerte y gracias.

Actually, the only expense I had was ohm resistors, serpentine belt, and dummy pulley to replace a/c compressor pulley since I deleted it as well. Greatly appreciated! Lots of crap gone and I believe truck runs and performs noticeably better.

I love bringing old machines back to life! This is so cool you did a GREAT job! I'm looking for an Ammco myself. At the end of the video it looks like you have some kind of rubber band around the rotor that you're turning. It almost looks like it has magnets holding it on or something. What is this? Some sort of anti vibration thing?
@CarlosMDominguez2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Indeed, it is a rubber band with lead inserts on it to mitigate chatter, the pads are made of plastic, held by spring pressure, also to reduce vibration. I have flipped a few lathes that I found at reasonable price on the marketplace (facebook) you just have to look for a good deal and, most important... don't be afraid to rebuild them. You can get the parts at www.Undercar Equipment Parts.com, if you decide to do it yourself. Good luck and thanks again for the comment!

I wish it’ll be a video talking about the AAMCO factories, documentary per say. i’m so glad that you know a little bit about it because of your father. The LATHE on the video was the first one i’ve rebuilt I’ve done a couple more since. every once in a while I do find them fix and then sell them on the marketplace. If the intent is to update vehicle specifications... This seems the hard way about it. Pull the EPROM. Dump the EPROM. Now you have the expected formatting structure. Now you have choices. If the requirement is to access all the specifications on the CD (hopefully it contains a file with said specifications) otherwise you would have to execute some sort of scrape function. From there it is a matter of mapping the file format of the CD to the expected EPROM structure (watch for check sums). Python, or even VB in excel can accomplish this. Finally burn the new data set to a new EPROM... or overwrite one of your existing EPROM's (make sure you have a verified good backup of your original). If this is for personal use and you only need to update the few vehicles you maintain... then I would just edit the original EPROM file. If out of storage space I'd delete vehicles I know I will never see (Yugo anybody?) and add the limited data sets you need manually. I'm certain I could complete this process in about an hour. If I were to go full gonzo and want all vehicle specifications possible. I'd build out all the EPROM's needed to host the data sets. Then add a socketed PCB with a rotary switch to select different ROM's... Actually I'd probably build a raspberry pie to emulate the ROM while hosting all the data on storage which is why I try to avoid going full gonzo as much as possible, because without constraints I can scope creep like nobody else.
@CarlosMDominguez3 ай бұрын
Wow! You are talking quantum physics to me. All I did was; manually, from a spec CD: I printed the PDF pages containing the specs, then instruction by instruction or word by word number by number entered the hex data on hiew, for the spec file and substitute year make and model of most cars year 2000-2010 at that time, stay tuned for the next part of the video, now that I got your comment I'm compelled to edit it and upload the second part. By the way I did it just to see if I could do the challenge without being an expert or knowledgeable on hex programming e-proms. Thank you for the comment.

So on the drivers side, if my camber is reading +1.1 degree (out of alignment) and I need it close to be +/- .25 and the current camber bushing is +1.30 degree (1 1/2) what camber bushing would I need to reach my goal of +/- .25 camber?
@CarlosMDominguez5 ай бұрын
That depends on the position of the bushing, is it facing in out or sideways. If is facing out (positive) then rotate towards inside until within tolerance, taking in count your caster reading. It is not possible to give you an answer without all variables known. Good luck.
