Carlos, did you ever find the big Ammco wrench you spoke about at the 2:48 mark in this video?
@CarlosMDominguez2 ай бұрын
Yes I did. I think I found it on Ebay.
@gerrycronkrite44482 ай бұрын
Great! My father was the plant maintenance engineer at AMMCO for 25 years retiring in 1987. I found one of the wrenches at a yard sale and paid about $3.00 for it. I use to love walking through the plant when y father would go in at night to check on things. BTW - I would have given you the wrench.
@CarlosMDominguez2 ай бұрын
@@gerrycronkrite4448 thank you so much for that. I wish it’ll be a video talking about the AAMCO factories, documentary per say. i’m so glad that you know a little bit about it because of your father. I’m going to try to do a little research on the history of Ammco. The LATHE on the video was the first one i’ve rebuilt I’ve done a couple more since. every once in a while I do find them fix and then sell them on the marketplace. I think you should keep that wrench as something of sentimental value to remember your father, and where he worked at, and I really thank you for thinking on giving it to me.

Great video. I've been rebuilding these for over twenty years now here in the DFW area. You're right those drum gear boxes are a pain to put together by the way the name of my company is independent brake lathe service

@CarlosMDominguez well if you do get another one let me know if you need any hard-to-find parts I know MT RSR sells a lot of stuff that is my main supplier. But I have a lot of the hard-to-find parts that you can't get anymore because Ammco is out of business

I love bringing old machines back to life! This is so cool you did a GREAT job! I'm looking for an Ammco myself. At the end of the video it looks like you have some kind of rubber band around the rotor that you're turning. It almost looks like it has magnets holding it on or something. What is this? Some sort of anti vibration thing?
@CarlosMDominguez2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Indeed, it is a rubber band with lead inserts on it to mitigate chatter, the pads are made of plastic, held by spring pressure, also to reduce vibration. I have flipped a few lathes that I found at reasonable price on the marketplace (facebook) you just have to look for a good deal and, most important... don't be afraid to rebuild them. You can get the parts at www.Undercar Equipment Parts.com, if you decide to do it yourself. Good luck and thanks again for the comment!

Hola Carlos, do you have the part number for the bearings on that motor? thanks in advance.

Searching thru the pictures I found the bearing boxes they are SKF 6203 2ZJEM or may be 6203 2ZIEM it is a little blurry.

@@CarlosMDominguezCarlos is have a ammco like the one in this video. But the gears or gear to feed for the rotors finally gave up. So now it doesn’t feed slow or fast. I have nobody to service it here locally in California and unfortunately i don’t even know the model number. Do you think i can fix it myself or is it too much, what do you think? I would gladly pay someone to fix it
@CarlosMDominguez10 ай бұрын
Its a model 4000. If is not feeding, is possible that the shear gear is broken The (Right Angle assembly Drive has shear gear) that gets driven by the pulley. You can buy the assembly or the gear. mt-rsr.com/products/right-angle-drive-9815 or search on ebay. It is not too hard to replace. Also search for the lathe manual pdf, its free to download, just search for ammco brake lathe pdf and find one, that will help you a lot. Good luck. I hope it helps. @@Thedirtylittlesecret

I've been servicing and rebuilding Ammco brake lathes for over 40 years. These old 4000 models will last forever...if you can find parts and they always look like this one unless they were recently rebuilt. Rust is not an operational issue. Ammco lathes and parts are now made in China and are pure shit. Don't buy a new one. I have 40+ years of parts on hand if anyone is looking for genuine Ammco parts made in America.

You are right. Not only Ammco, a bunch of other things as well. Please leave your contact email or website if possible. I am currently refurbishing a 4001 model, with truck adaptors, I might need some parts. Thanks for the comment!
