Considering these for my Model Y Performance…How are you liking these so far? Any feedback on handling, performance in the snow, range impact, etc.? Thanks in advance!
@fiehlsport3 күн бұрын
My Dad has enjoyed the tires for the last few months, though he isn't a very "Dynamic" driver. They are quiet, and have been great in the snow, but no other impressions outside of that unfortunately. For the MYP, they should be a bit "squishier" than the stock tires, but that's always a good thing on the harsh suspension. Thanks for watching!

I'd be interested to know how this RWD set up works with snow tires in snow covered roads, especially up inclines. I imagine the weight bias is more RWD friendly given the weight/location of the battery. I know that a FWD gas engine car will do surprisingly well in the snow with the right tires.

I took my 2022 Model Y to service for a tire rotation 2 days ago. It only has 13,000 miles. After Tesla service was done rotating, I immediately noticed the steering wheel was off center. My right side was higher than my left side steering wheel. Tesla tells me I need to have an alignment now and that the rotation did not cause the off center steering wheel. But I know it did. I am very upset at Tesla service for trying to get me to pay for an about $300 alignment when I have no abnormal tire wear. I did my research and discovered that if the tie rods were inadvertently touched during tire rotation that it could cause the off center steering wheel. Tesla had it up on the lift when they rotated the front to the back, then criss crossed the tires as well. Tesla then tells me that the AWD Model Y rear tires wear out faster than the front. After the rotation, I asked if they measured the tire thread depth. But they did not. So I told them to measure in front of me. Apparently my front tires had worn out faster. They were .04 of a millimeter more worn than the rear tires. But now the front ones are on the rear side, and I'm worried these more worn will wear out more now that they are at the rear. Is it true that the rear wear out faster? Anyway, they refused to look at the tie rod, or fix the off center steering wheel. I'm very dissatisfied and upset at Tesla service. What do I do?
@fiehlsportАй бұрын
@@laurenkattuah it’s very unlikely that the tie rods were touched as a result of the rotation. It would involve different tools that wouldn’t be used during a rotation. My guess is that the rear tire wear (normal to wear out faster than the front) is contributing to the pull you notice after the rotation. It definitely could use an alignment, they all do usually, but don’t pay Tesla triple what a good shop would charge. Hope this helps!

@@fiehlsport I had the alignment done couple of weeks ago at TESLA. I agree I think that when they perform the tire rotation that my rear tire moved to the front caused the toe to be skewed. But happy with the alignment, it’s perfect now. Never had to have alignments in my other vehicles, following a tire rotation, but perhaps because of the heaviness on the rear tires, it causes them to wear out faster like you said. Then swapping them to the front can cause a skew.

Thank you for this. My wife's MYP came new with alignment issues and an off center steering wheel. Tesla did the alignment. They fixed the steering wheel but the car had an incredible pull. They did it a 2nd time. We got the alignment print out and they nailed it but whoever did the 1st one should never touch an alignment job again, it was awful driving and it showed on the alignment read out. Unfortunately the steering wheel issue came right back after the 2nd alignment. Yesterday we went for a 3rd time and they told us the steering wheel was straight and wouldn't adjust it. Absolutely wild. Pisses me off even more seeing how easy this was to resolve with 2 wrenches and a guy crawling on the floor that they wouldn't do it. Thanks for the video!!!
@fiehlsportАй бұрын
It’s amazing how there can be so much variability in Tesla service. By any chance were your front camber readings very different on the last alignment? If one is more negative than the other, it can cause a significant pull even if the toe is straight. My car came from the factory with excessive camber on the front right - I had to modify my strut towers (really it was the control arm mounting bolts) to allow for enough adjustability to get it equal on both sides. Then, and only then, was the car “alignable” by a shop. I believe it was -0.4° on the left and -1.2° on the right. This also caused some pretty excessive tire wear on my front right tire. Once they were .4 and .5 respectively, the car drove straight as an arrow after another toe alignment. Tesla wouldn’t do what was actually necessary to fix the car since it wasn’t brand new, and they were telling me that I had bent suspension components.
@robertyoung8615Ай бұрын
@@fiehlsport I don't have the original factory alignment numbers but based on the readout from alignment #2 the numbers for alignment #1 were: Front Toe: -.17 & -.01 Front Camber: -.61 & -.61 Rear Toe: 0 & -.01 Rear Camber: -1.19 & -.99 From factory we had a 'drift' to the right and misaligned steering wheel. After #1 we had a more severe pull to the right but a straight steering wheel. Alignment #2: Front Toe: .03 & .04 Front Camber: -.61 & -.59 Rear Toe: .11 & .14 Rear Camber: -1.16 & -.94 Thrust: -.01 I honestly don't understand enough about alignments to make a solid conclusion out of that but I was surprised to see anything from the first alignment was out of spec on the printout(front left toe & both rear toe) and that the situation got worse. This seems to be more common than it should, I've seen a lot of stories of multiple alignment failures through them. Really makes me wonder what the dealio is. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on those alignment #s as you seem fairly knowledgeable on it. Admittedly I'm probably over dramatic about how bad it looked on paper but it was shocking how much worse it drove after the first alignment. Dealing with Tesla service is a total crapshoot. I've had stuff that they were great about and others not so much like this. They definitely love an opportunity to not fix something. My 2 least favorite words have become 'in spec'.

It's actually most likely not up to code @48AMP continuous. Most (even Tesla) don't consider temperature correction factor (guaranteed an issue if you're running it through the garage attic) You'll likely need X2 4 AWG Line and X1 6 AWG ground (THNN). You'd need 1" PVC (40) or EMT conduit for that. If you're not reading the NEC codes, I always recommend LLM's. Easy way to parse correct requirements.

I set this up in my garage. 60 amp breaker in main panel to subpannel with two 60 amp breakers, one to each wall connector. They PowerShare at 48 amp max between the two wall connectors. They communicate via wifi and work even if your home wifi goes down (the "master" wall connector communicates with the "follower" wall connector via its own wifi signal. If they ever fail to communicate with each other they both drop to 5 amps, which has never happened to me because they are located in the same garage so signal strength is high. It's a slick setup.
