Useful video for me. Just moved back to the area after 47 years. Now a leisure 'canadian canoe' paddler, I am looking at a day on the wyre between Elswick and the weir further upstream. Not seen the bore further up yet so need to check the strength.

I saw one by coincidence once when walking home. Quite something in an understated way. Sad to see the little red and white boat. It was washed away in the big storm just two months later.

The bore passed Arnside Pier at 11:43 today. It was about 20 minutes early due to a strong westerly wind. High tide at Arnside tomorrow (13th Feb 2024) is at 14:45 and the bore usually arrives about 1 hour and 50 minutes before that (that will be 12:55). I would arrive at least 30 minutes before, in case it comes in early again.

When I was homeless in about 2007 me and a mate used to sleep under the little arch next to the footbridge,really warm out of the rain,it.was ok til the river got really swollen one night and we nearly sailed off downstream!! Never left there until 28th November when we managed to get a flat..GREAT DAYS!!!

Not as impressive as I was expecting. However, it is madness we don’t harness the energy in the tidal movements, it’s free.

Liverpool the most horrible place in the UK, and the scouse accent is just so awful to listen too, especially coming out the mouths of the scouse ‘women’ … nasty and not in the least feminine! 😝😖🤦🏼‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙄😬

The Trent has the same (the wave itself is known as the 'Aegir') and the really big ones draw in quite a crowd of spectators. Best views are north of Morton near Gainsborough where the river has a long straight run, the bend at Morton takes a bit of a toll on it but it does pick up to an extent by the time it reaches the town itself. Not many decent(ish) uploads on youtube as they tend to be filmed at Gainsborough by folk who can't stop swinging an old camera phone around but it does lead to realistic sea sickness if nothing else.

When was the last tidal bore?
@robbridges5975
@robbridges5975 Жыл бұрын
They occur most months on high spring tides, provided the river isn’t swollen with rain water. So, the last bores occurred on 20-25th Feb. Next due on21-24th March.

Brought here by the police investigation. With a bore like that it’s understandable how a body can be moved upstream. It even moves an anchored boat

Just looking at your video in the light of the Nicola Bulley disappearance and wondered if you could speak to what you think the Wyre may have been like in St Michaels on the morning of 27th January 2023. The time of interest is between (approx) 9am and 11am. But also interested to know if it would have been or would be any different earlier or later.

Great Video, thank you so much, when is the River Dee Tidal Bore this year (2023)? Can it also be viewed from the Wirral, including Thurstaton?
@robbridges5975
@robbridges5975 2 жыл бұрын
The bores most likely occur on high spring tides, so the next ones will be on 21-23 Feb and 22-24 March 2023. The Dee bore forms out in the estuary on the approach to Flint, so unfortunately can’t be seen from Thurstaston. It can be viewed from Connah’s Quay to Chester though.

That takes me back. When I was a kid, the Mersey was brown soup, smelt of oil, and had detergent foam on top. *Nothing* lived apart from rats. When it was windy, the foam blew off and chased people up Bridge Street like tumbleweed. It looks like the Garden of Eden now compared to the late '60s. Mr Cormorant knows a thing or two about fishing. 🙂

@robbridges5975

Hi Brad. You need a high tide at Liverpool Gladstone Dock of 9.5m or more. The bore will pass under the blue bridge at Queensferry about 1 hour 50 mins before high tide at Liv Glad Dock. This month’s highest tides are this coming w/e - Sat 13th August (1pm) and Sun 14th August (1:43pm). Even though the tides will only be about 9.4m, because the river level is low at the moment, a reasonable bore may be produced (though not guaranteed). So, the bore will pass under the blue bridge at about 11:10am on Saturday and 11:53am on Sunday. The best surfing can be had on the straight section of the river between the A494 road bridge and the footbridge at Saltney Ferry. The bore can be earlier or later than predicted, So would recommend being ready 20-30 mins before the times I’ve given. Good luck.

Never fails to amazing me.....seen it lots of times....had the times down to the minute....amazing 1 second the flow of the river is out toward the sea....in a flash its the opposite way. Rob the bore on the day you filmed this....was it a big tide....I have seen several 10.3mts tide runs at Runcorn....quite amazing. Canoed from Howley to Widnes several times....the river is most interesting. Time and tide and all that. Nick from Runcorn.

Seen this loads of times while waiting on the bridge that crosses the Mersey at Arpley tip,it really is a remarkable sight to see the speed that water comes in at,you’d be hard pushed to to outrun it.
