Jan, it seems like both of us are too old for the song. There's a reason Sweden introduced demographic televoting, the power is in the hands of youngsters and they prefer performance acts instead of big vocal and musical masterclasses.

Somehow I get the feeling that you're too caught up in your role as a jury member, and even when you say something positive there's so much negative that in the end you get the feeling that you think every song is really bad. Yes, even if you say at the end that you're surprised by the quality, the negative outweighs the positive. I'd like to highlight Martha May as an example. She's a really likeable girl and I think a lot of of her, but unfortunately she's not going to win any prizes with the audience with this song. It may be that the expert hears something that the common people don't, but that misses the mark. By the way, for a small country like Croatia it's important that Dora has 24 participants, otherwise 20 of them wouldn't get a chance to present themselves to the home audience! For me… I like really a lot of the songs and 90% is singing in Englisch but the most of it will work just better or fall with the stage performance. So I must see the semifinals to make my decision! Thx a lot for your reaction clip and best wishes from the Adriatic coast and I hope you don't take offense at my criticism because it is not meant to be malicious ;)

Hey! Thank you! I actually take zero offense, this is what I like a proper discussion and different point of view. Let me explain mine a bit more. As a professional and also perfectionist, I rly look at it from this perspective - as a director, as a producer as a juror. I am not looking at it as a fan to like everything just for the sake liking it. I see many things which might be great and have potential but also risks. This is after all part of my job to name it. And this is also a value of my channel, to give those opinions out as anyone else is not doing it. Of course it mostly sounds sceptical, but if you watch my channel properly long term, you would understand :) All the best!

@@mariolovric2228 Hello Mario, this is exactly the reason why I think Jan is the best commentator. The big majority of youtubers share their emotional reaction to Eurovision entries, but Jan is also able to give us a more objective, critical background, a perspective from a perfectionist insider from which we can all keep learning. Bok!
@mariolovric2228
@mariolovric2228 4 сағат бұрын
@@borutpetrovic7203 Emotions are good and important because as humans we are sensitive beings! That's why I appreciate the work of those who give us the emptional perspective… BUT… very few people take the time to listen to the songs in full length. I can't evaluate something professional or express emotions by listening to snippets of a few seconds of the songs. That's where those with passion are separated from those who are only chase after quick clicks and discounted tickets for the show! For that alone, I respect everyone who really sits down and does the work for us to explain their point of view. In that respect, I appreciate both approaches! As I said, there aren't many that do that! So thanks again, Jan :)

Something bothers me is the fact that all countries are giving their best this season (except for Spain and Greece), but if there is no catch, then I am only happy. For me, here is a clear top 6 hits. 1 Marko Bosnjak - Poison Cake 2 Matt Shaft - Welcome to the circus 3 Ogenj - Give, give 4 Luka Nižetić - Južina 5 Ananda - Lies Lay Cold 6 EoT - Bye, Bye, Bye

imo we will have again very similar situation as last year in general at Eurovision. Lots of songs made for public voters - as an eurovision effect, least real quality or even hits. F.e. from this lost only Ananda can become a music hit. Marko can be like Bambie last year, effect on stage for a great result maybe, but thats it.
@TAKE_EAM
@TAKE_EAM 10 сағат бұрын
@JanBors Well, maybe, and I do not argue that last year there were many applications for televote and I would really like to return to the stage of 2014-2019, when the overall quality of the song was important for Eurovision, and not its brightness. But honestly? Overall I have a feeling this will be the strongest Eurovision since 2019 as seriously most countries seem to be giving out 2 heads more than usual except Spain and Greece

I´m a Finnish UMK and Eurovision fan. I´m also a subscriber for your channel even though you practically throw every UMK song year after year under the bus 😂😂😂 But I´m a person who can tolerate different opinions in this polarized world. It´s one reason why I watch and like your videos even though I mostly disagree with you. In my opinion you have your own honest and in some way brutally refreshing style. I can relate to you in the way that I often feel about Melodifestivalen entries in the same way as you feel about UMK entries. Personally I think that UMK has had a great start but I´m at the same time 100% sure that the winner of UMK25 is yet to be come. We clearly hear Hitaammin Hautaan differently in the way that I think it grows slowly all the time and then it ends abruptly. It doesn´t feel like a 5 minutes long song to me at all. One question : do you love any UMK song from any year? And then one follow up question : if you do, which one?
@JanBors
@JanBors 19 сағат бұрын
Hey! Thx for an amazing post! Well, I have my own view to share, thats it but UMK is one of my favorite selections, especially when it comes to live show as this has always amazing production value. Imo it started amazingly (and having amazing results so far) but I see kinda decline in quality of songs - not rly hits. But it fits Eurovision, which imo is exactly the opposite way it should go, therefore could profit better. Anyway, there are several entries I rly liked, even last year (differences between studio versions and than live, take it into consideration). My favorite entries in studio versions - Paskana, Dark Side, Looking Back but lots of great performances, ofc Cha Cha Cha worked amazingly well. Imagine where were you before? This context is amazingly important. Now I have high expectations, as YLE proved it can motivate interesting artists to come. Last year for me was the biggest "sadness", that artists cannot sing rly well. And I look at it from European perspective - where I would like Eurovision to be. Benchmark for artists? Italy. Benchmark for performance visuals? Sweden. Both - Ukraine. This level. So thats why you might see me more sceptical in general :D

That's pretty much what I think of these videos too, I almost always strongly disagree, but still I for some reason always want to watch these! Well, I have really high expectations for the songs too, and basically always get disappointed. My first reaction to these songs would be quite critical, but I want to see where my opinion goes if I give it some time. And usually that's when my quite positive personality kinda takes over, and I start to pick up what's good about the songs 🤔 And then concentrate on the positives. But I am open for different opinions, and I want to see well rationalized critique also. Always good to take a look into things from different perspectives.

I respectfully disagree - because I think the chorus is insanely catchy, it was immediately stuck in my head, and Nelli has an amazingly beautiful voice that doesn't need power but is pleasing the ears with softness and grace.🤍🇫🇮🩵 It's a perfect representation of what is called Nordic Pop, there are distinct 80s influences that make it quite danceable on stage and for the audience, and it's actually growing and getting catchier and catchier each time I listen to it. Moreover, the lyrics are very meaningful and personal, and everyone should read the English translation at least! I usually don't listen to pop that often, but mostly to alternative and dark music, and I still love this one. Well done, Nelli!✨️🎶
