I wish our trains put on a show like this. But the Indian Pacific just pulls out slowly with stuff all .

Think that needs the boars re sleeving, old engines that have done many hours of the pistons going up and down attached to the camshaft causes the barrels to oval over time letting engine oil into the combustion chamber and gets burned off with diesel, normally white (actually blue) smoke
@BrianMorrison15 күн бұрын
No, because being a 2-stroke the charge is fed via the transfer case into the cylinder and some of the fuel/lubricant scavenges the exhaust. The oil in the exhaust is trapped in the exhaust collector drums, advancing the throttle anywhere near max amperage from the DC generator will vaporise this oil with the result you see here.

That Deltic Wonderful blood gurgling sound 😎 ............... Nearly as spine tingling as my ex MOD Perkins V8 540 55kva gen set running our 3 phase workshop machinery Which sounds awesome & gives you a buzz every time you fire it up 🤠 But It used to be very thirsty 12-16 litres an hour depending on load & was always very smokey ( lot crankcase pressure). Therefore had Injection pump & injectors reconditioned ,no noticeable improvement. Still very smokey, fitted new performance K&N air filters , new oil & filter change, rerouted breather pipes into oil catch can away from intake manifold, didn't have any improvement............. Rather than do full engine overhaul (new rings etc) Experimented running it with 2 x 24 volt 1700 watt HHO generators ( 1 each bank cylinders direct into plenum chamber) Smoke disappeared , crankcase pressure disappeared...................... She runs whole lot sweeter & only uses 6-8 litres red diesel an hour now together with about 5-6 litres of fresh rain water to feed HHO generator to turn into hydrogen gas (chlorinated tap water doesn't work ) Engine oil stays golden colour for 8-10 cold starts , used to turn black after just couple of cold starts 👍🇬🇧👍

Is that a bit of oil or does it need some fresh injectors?
@12crepello2 ай бұрын
Nope, nothing wrong here it's just what they do!!
@BrianMorrison15 күн бұрын
There are no injectors as such, the charge is blown through the transfer case and into the cylinder as the pistons uncover the inlet ports.

Great video of D213 over the scottish highlands i used to know the guy who bought this locomotive from british rail back in 1988 he loved the train and tried to restore it and get her back on the main line but sadly he passed away before his dream came true, Lovley to see D213 back in action and running so well.
