I think I would wrap a small piece of masking tape above the cork area to help protect the neck finish. Also using a cloth and lighter fluid cleans off old glue and cork gunk from the neck area better then alcohol.

I used to use this combination of Almond oil, orange oil (might have been "bitter orange" oil), and liquid paraffin (but that is a petroleum product). Supposedly the orange oil was to prevent oxidation, and the paraffin was to help absorbtion. Now I just use the cosmetic almond oil from Whole Foods that has a little vitamin E to prevent oxidation/rancidity.

SPECULATION, I have not done this, but it may be a possibility. I searched for and have read that common epoxy is weakened at 200 F. If you need to remove epoxy you could use a heat gun (similar to blow dryer but far slower speed and lower volume but hotter air than a blow dryer) or steam which condenses on surfaces and heats them far faster than hotter air, steam is a nasty burn hazard.

Good morning as a former mechanic now a repair tech and saxophonist let me state this fact. Forks would always work more effeciently than those type of ball joints. Those type of ball joints also with time become noisy.

Need to do this to my tenor; bought it used, then loaned it to a friend whom I'm pretty sure kept it in his garage (very hot; all the adjustment corks fell off). Just afraid of the challenge of making adjustments, but I do have the full Neopad set from Music Medic, and already the one I've replaced has helped a lot.

@@MusicMediccom I'm kind of on a tight budget, but I figure tools are a good investment, and I really appreciate the videos! If I could make time for and budget travel expenses, I would attend a clinic, but we'll see how things pan out as I plan the next year.

Can a saxophone get bent inside the case if the case is kind of soft inside?
@MusicMediccomАй бұрын
It can be bent or damaged in any style case if the case takes a shock. The level of shock or damage can vary on how well the case is constructed and how well it keeps the instrument from moving. An instrument in a loose fitting case can be damaged even if it's set down too hard repeatedly.

Excellent. I am a saxophonist and flutist and I repair and maintain my instruments myself, and I would like to get certified as a Luttier of these instruments. Could you tell me in which part of the United States I could do it. Thank you very much for posting excellent content.

This is for saxophone? I'm a woodworking dude where "padding with shellac" means something very different lol. Never saw my sax buddy dealing with this or even discussing it. Granted, a billion years ago so....

Just want to say thank you for the video! I just had my first soft soldering session today and all went well thanks to you! I trained first on a bad and old alto sax, the Eb guard was detached, then I went on the same issue with my Mark VI baryton. Both solved very quickly and neatly. Lastly I managed to attach a peg holder on the bell of my bass clarinet. I'd had these issues for many months, and they are now solved. Thanks again!

Just found this video. I have this exact problem currently. Question: Does every instrument repair technician have these specialized tools and equipment to shave down the tenon? For example, does one need the lathe to correct this problem? Seems like a very expensive piece of equipment and I can't imagine all repair technicians having one. Is there any way to correct the tenon problem that would not involve a lathe? Thanks in advance!

Excellent work! I was wondering if you could suggest where to get the replacement rods for the SBA tenor sax from ? Best wishes Kris
@jeffreymassa2 ай бұрын
Hi Kris- we make these rods custom to fit each specific location for an SBA- to resize rods where wear is dictated by the keys and posts and to match the unusual threadform that Selmer used for the SBAs. Many instrument repair techs have the ability to make new rods for custom applications. Factory style parts just aren't available for many vintage horns, so they need to be custom made to keep these horns in service.
