Welp..my only disappointment is with the urine. It kust seems to have problem evaporating liquid, but that is because surface heat can burn solids but cannot readily get the pan hot enough to boil and evaporate urine. That needs to be done by heating the bottom of the pan like boiling water on the stove (however I have secured a netter option). BUT i will say this, for what I can do with the unit it works great on #2 with paper NOT wipes, but paper. The ash works great for garden and other fertilizer uses, because it is completely sanitized. Hope this helps.

The idea behind this is to have a beautiful way to preserve the wood for a very long time. I believe the poly urethane will not hold up, outside, exposed to weather too long before it needs to be re-coated. Please advise.
@ericaures4734Күн бұрын
Just a thought but had you had a 4th board that was not burnt for reference for us to see the amount of color that came out, it would help. I may need to ‘sell’ this idea to my wife.

Woah, thanks for the succinct information! My husband and I lived in our tiny house for 3 years with the $5 bucket "composting" toilet system with standard facilities nearby. Now, 5 years later, we are looking to move back into our tiny house again, this time with kids and off grid! I will definitely be looking into incinerating toilets. Thanks for the tip!

For long term preservation outside, should the char or ash be left on and tung oil applied? I am making trellises for outdoor use- veggie supports. Thank you!

I think that the more char you can keep on the there, the better. I did some raised beds and left all the char on and then applied the oil. We'll see how long they last, but I think that it's a good approach.

No, you can use it while it is running. Simply hit the button again to reset the burn cycle. I get this question a lot, so I think that making a video on this might be a good idea, no?

Could I heat a coil kit with the burners instead? I'm under a redwood tree
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Sure! You could loop copper coil through a burn barrel type set up. 55 gallon oil drum would likely be overkill but something a bit smaller might work well. I would likely introduce a small pump to move the water through the copper coil setup...might not actually be needed though. Anyone have experience with this that could comment on this?

Great comparison video thanks for sharing! Working on a chicken coop with shou sugi ban finish right now. One thing I found, a cheap deck brush from a big box store got me a much better brush job. Even with brass brush I found I kept gouging the wood. They are also large enough to brush a whole board in one go.

We spent a lot of time thinking about what to do during a SHFT situation and actually had the solution here at home. We have a over the toilet handicap chair that we used for my mom. She passed several years ago but we kept the chair. That will be our make shift toilet. Using the 'shavings' idea we will have a five gallon bucket beneath the chair and the drop down shield will go right into the bucket. Having two dedicated buckets, one in use and one to empty and sanitize for the next change. It will go in the spare bedroom for privacy. It even has a toilet paper hanger that come out on the side of the arm. They run anywhere from 40 to 150 dollars.

Question. Do you have to use a freash liner everytime for urine only ? and also incinerate everytime. for just urine
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Yes, a new liner is needed for every flush. You can pee in there though and not flush...pee again a bit later and then use a single flush/burn cycle to eliminate two pee sessions. If you get what I mean.

My house/ cottage got called unsanitary because I have a bucket /sawdust composting toilet.......oh well. I can't stand throwing good water down into the sewer. Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I'll check on the incenolet.
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Yes, that can happen. As I always say...it's best to have a plan for what you are doing with the contents of the toilet. That's where most of the problems start to crop up. Most people love the concept of a composting toilet, but they don't love figuring out where and how to actually compost the material that is produced in the toilet. Do you agree?

What do you recommend for maximum protection against constant sun? I want to use for an outdoor table but don’t want to refinish every year. Any of these options weather well compared to others for a table application?
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Maximum protection would be simply using pressure treated wood. If you want to employ this method you kind of have to be open to a bit more maintenance. In exchange you get a much nicer (and earth friendly) finish on the wood, that looks a whole lot sexier than pressure treated. It's all a bit of a trade off.
@manuscus6289Ай бұрын
If using oil finish on ext it attracts mildew fast being a natural,organic material
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Is that a question or a comment? I haven't experienced any mildew on treated surfaces with this method, have you?
@antahmadАй бұрын
Why just a light scrubbing? I ask because a more intense scrubbing with an nylon/nyalox brush, either hand or drill attachment, will sway you to the alligator burn because it burns the hardwood more, and the softwood, with a good scrubbing, creates a massive contrast and more texture.
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Yes, I think that there are a number of things that are worth experimenting with. Although I have done a number of projects with this, I still always feel that there are a lot more variations to explore. What video would you like to see me do in that regard?

Try using a flywheel attachment for your drill. Makes cleaning a lot faster and minimal tool marks and you can bring it down to a "toasted" colour.
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
Never tried that. You've had success with that method? I find the brushing not to be that hard...kind of like it. Also ok to not brush at all. Get that question a lot. :)
@ScalesOfaRam2 ай бұрын
Good demonstration. I typically go harder on #3 and use the smaller handheld torch to help relief the knots and hard grains. Using planks with mild dry rot creates a nice texture too. Should have PPE to prevent inhaling the phenols.
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
All true. Using a small torch on the knots is a great idea. I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks!

Excellent job mate 🙌 a question, the bark side is the one burned?
@TinyIndustrialАй бұрын
HI there. Not sure what you mean by 'bark side'. There is not bark on any of these planks. I do recommend that you burn all sides to prevent warping of the wood though.
@MrVillabolo2 ай бұрын
Can you tell us more about the 240 volt version? Does it work faster? How many persons per hour can it handle?
@TinyIndustrial2 ай бұрын
The high voltage version simply heats up faster and can burn hotter, which leads to a shorter burn cycle. You can use the toilet while it's burning. I would give it 15 or so minutes after a burn cycle starts before using it again. You don't want to overwhelm one of these things. I would say that one of these could handle a family of 3 pretty effectively with a bit of planning/coordination.
