I'm excited to lift my 04 2.0 5 speed lol but everywhere I look they are about the same size, I've made mine into a ute, it's a work in progress but I'm thinking a totally different set up, all that's gonna be left of my golf is the shell basically, hopefully lol but it's cool to see how people have done a standard suspension lift on these cars lol I'm doing mine different because it'll be hauling a homemade trailer as well lol did you know these cars can tow, 1,650 pounds (750 kg) or 3,086 pounds (1,400 kg) with a trailer tow package lol. These truly are beasts, best car I've ever owned

After owning this for however long you've had it, have you encountered any issues? Im not mechanically inclined, and im afraid if i come across an issue, I'll just leave it to rust. Hows the suspension holding up, and why i see no springs? Is this a stock goped?
@JChurchua
@JChurchua 2 ай бұрын
@luisLP5752 it uses an independent cantilever suspension, not like tradition car or motorcycle/dirt bike. They produced this design in the mid 90s and have had success since due to the lack of maintenance required. It uses plastic/rubber rods to create a dampening effect which functions as suspension. Those rubber rods(4) are within the square housing at the pivot of the cantilever arms. In general, I would not suggest a goped for anyone who lacks mechanical inclination. They do have failure points and not many cities have shops that are already knowledgeable with gopeds. In theory, any small engine repair shop can fix these, however, not all small engine repair shops are willing to accept this platform for repairs(unwilling to learn outside their comfort zone) The carbersteurs require nearly constant tuning. I'll start a ride in the evening, sun up and 80 degrees. But after a brew at a local bar and the sun goes down, it'll be 60 degrees for the ride home and the carb needs less fuel to be happy. Clutches wear out and need changing, that's a complete motor off job. Cables wear out. I had the "off cable" wear through and was grounding on the frame causing the goped to not run. Luckily I was able to understand enough to disconnect the "off switch" eliminating it from the system allowing the goped to run. Weird things happen and on a ride, you'd be stranded without alil know how. Definitely a hands in experience. This goped is basically stock, it's regeared and has some engine mods but it's very close to stock form and functionality.

Now that you've had the lift for a few years im curious how your axles held up?
@JChurchua
@JChurchua 3 ай бұрын
@leonardschindler3166 lowering the car increases the CV angle. Lifting the car flattens the CV making a long life for the axles. Zero issues due to the lift.

If you follow the rules to a T your not supposed ride them on walking paths or side walks, or on the main road. You can ride them off to the side of the road up to 30mph in the bike lane or off road on private property.

Hi, awesome lift, pretty epic lift you got there and its looking sick. Sadly dont get these springs in my country. I wanted to know if you had tried spaccer company? I was researching myself to do this in my country, But, spaccer is not available here. In their website its showing a lift of 60mm lift (2 inch lift ) , what do you think of it ?

@JChurchua
@JChurchua 5 ай бұрын
@inkmaster6271 cable related not clutch at all. Look at the throttle arm that moves when you pull the cable. I bet it's way open right now, likely not resting right under the carb or is pinched somewhere along the routing from throttle to carb. Also, if the carb gums up then it'll keep itself open.

I just bought myself a Seat Leon 1m 20vt4 (Same platform as the mk4 golf, PQ34, but with a Haldex "4-wheel drive" system) and it has too much surface rust and a bit too much bodge repairs to make it look good. Was thinking about maybe doing a lift with crash bar, aux lighting, roof racks and a spare wheel on a contraption at the rear. When you fit the springs on the front shocks did you also have to fit a shaft extender? It feels like it would "bottom out" but in the top part if you have to compress the spring too much. Since mine's 4 wheel drive I'm going to have to figure something out for the rear, but I did see someone here who did it on a mk4 R32 so I might have ideas for that.

How did u remove the triangle piece that u fast forwarded I can't get it out where the screw is in middle
@JChurchua
@JChurchua Жыл бұрын
the whole clutch assembly? smacking it with a hammer to dislodge it from the shaft. You can see me fo that in the video and can probably slow it down by 2x for a better view. once the bolt is removed the only thing holding it in is pressure or oxidization.. A solid smack downward should dislodge it.

@@yanishameesh7965 connect the pads/springs and then force them onto the triangle center. I just did the jeep lift on my 03 beetle, I used the stock struts and rear shocks, got to say it looks good but it's hard as a rock, if some shorter or softer shocks were found for the fronts, then you can fit the stock front shocks in the rear, this will allow about an 1.5" sag so at least you have some travel. As the front was maxed out I went ahead and put the Cherokee shocks on the rear, now it's level but about the only travel is in the tires. One other helpful hint for this, when doing the rear, do both sides at once, having bothe shocks disconnected will allow the rear axle to swing down a bit more freely
@JChurchua
@JChurchua Жыл бұрын
I suggest replacing the struts with bilstein B6s or similar, since they have longer travel. Rears as well, the F150 rear shocks provide a lot of travel. I used all new springs and struts/shocks, definitely stiff to begin with but broke in and rides really well. Having the stock shocks will make them over extend regularly and eventualy bust id assume.

QUESTION: at 0:55 you said the top of the spring is too big ... and others used a torch to melt the spring to bend it smaller ... and you didn't, so what DID you do to get that Jeep spring to fit the rear?
@JChurchua
@JChurchua Жыл бұрын
Still around and car is still running and drives oh so smooth. KZbinz doesnt always send me notifications though... So, if you are familiar, the rear top is a bump or "nipple" hanging down that captures the rubber mount/top ring of the spring. I left the oversized diameter top ring as is, oem, untorched and let it "settle wherever it wants..." to be honest i havent looked at it in ages... But it rides well so i assume it is still within the nipple.. lol
