I want to go on vacation for shore fishing in late august early septmeber to zakynthos/keflonia or kreta/rhodos. Which one do you prefer? Zakynthos or keflonia? And have you ever fished in kreta or rhodes?
@TheSpeciesSeeker2 күн бұрын
@@frankverweij1 I’ve never fished in Rhodes or Kreta, but between Kefalonia and Zakynthos, I enjoyed Kefalonia more. There is less people, and the general mood of the island is calmer, which is great for the fishing experience and to find spots that are not solicited often by other fishermen. Hope that helps!

Great video... Can I ask what your rig set up is please... And bait or lure? I'm off to Antiparos in a couple of weeks. Very hard fishing down there. The odd mullet but they are very wary .
@TheSpeciesSeekerАй бұрын
@@stevenhunter9614 Sure ! It’s a very simple set up with small hook and split shots. Nothing more to avoid getting snagged. Bait-wise, nothing has been more effective than marine worms in Greece for me. That set up should do you good for vertical fishing from ports, but also for bait cast and retrieve from beaches and rocks. For the mullet tho, you’ll need a weightless line and floating bread to catch the bigger ones, chumming the waters and getting them to compete with one another is very important since they can be shy. Good luck in Antiparos ! 🤘 By the way sorry about the delay of the response, I was 200% sure that I already replied to your comment but somehow the message never sent 🫠

@@TheSpeciesSeeker Hey, if you’re still on the island try out the little village Katelios. It has a small port with lot of different fishes in it, if that doesn’t work you could try fishing at the rocks outside of the port 🙂

@@TheSpeciesSeeker The port I usually fish at used to have a turtle until 3 years ago. It got hit by a boat and I assume it was taken care of. But all in all I think the island is great for fishes
@TheSpeciesSeeker2 ай бұрын
@@ItzLele10 Honestly nothing beats the marine worm, weather it’s for seabream, comber, gobies… You get a lot of variety. Other way to go that worked well for me was bread, to get seabreams, dream fish and mullets 👍 they are all alongside the port’s coast so no need to cast far away

Can't wait to see what species you can catch from the U.S! It's definitely one of my goals to do a fishing roadtrip in the U.S to explore the specimens in your waters. Let me know if I can help in any way! Thanks you so much for the kind words, it means a lot!

Crazy seeing our native species in the US be invasive elsewhere. Maybe in the future, spend some time going over your rod setups, rigs, and baits used.
@TheSpeciesSeeker8 ай бұрын
Yes, I get it! To me it's crazy that carp are considered pest in Australia when they're one of the most popular fishes around here in Europe. But that's the beauty of studying an ecosystem! Is it native to the U.S? I though the Topmouth Gudgeon was native from Asia? Well noted! Thanks for the suggestion! For now, I didn't because I'm quite new to fishing and my set-up probably isn't right.. But I will definitely try to shed a light on this for the next videos!
@DillonStrunk8 ай бұрын
I meant the Green Sunfish/Pumkinseed being native to the US but invasive to you guys. Oh man, don't get me started on how we treat carp in America. Most people shoot carp with bows here. Although fishing for them is slowly catching on.
@TheSpeciesSeeker8 ай бұрын
@@DillonStrunkOh right! They’re on a lower spectrum of ‘invasive’, they prevent other fish from feeding or coming close to the shore with their aggressive behavior but they’re not nearly as bad as bullhead catfishes or stone moroko 😅 more of a nuisance fish tbh
