My absolute favourite gymnast ever and I've only learnt about her recently this last few months or so and already she (Elena) has me in full of admiration ❤ . What an inspiration she was and is. Yes ok very sadly she's no longer with us in person 😢 but her legacy will live on. we must never ever forget beautiful Elena Mukhina † 💗💗

She was breathtaking, so graceful and polished... nowadays gymnasts who win medals have arm movements devoid of any ballet grace - they appear to be swatting flies instead! - no sense of timing, and still can't point their toes properly. I have detected to watching rhythmic gymnastics instead.

So talented. Gymnastics changed into a sport that does not kill young women anymore. I love 1970s and 80s gymnastics but am also so happy things are safer and the girls can do this into adulthood now. Gone too soon.

It's a shame that she was denied an opportunity to medal in floor finals because of the two per country rule. Even in some of the competitions where she made floor finals she was never scored fairly.

That commentator seriously said that Sharon’s dance elements were good and that all of the men in the audience were watching her closely. So disrespectful. I love watching these old competitions, but I can’t believe all of the inappropriate comments made by these older men.

Pretty much Everything she's doing on the double-bars is now illegal... I watched Nadia Comăneci scoring 10 in everything at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.. Elena Vyacheslavovna Mukhina would have gotten 11 at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow..

When Elena had the accident, she was relieved because she wouldn't go to the Olympics, but only because she thought it was just another fracture, like the many she'd had before. Once she realized that she could end up almost completely paralyzed, she was desperate to get a surgery that could at least fix something. It's been said that it was extremely painful for Elena to even sit on the wheelchair, she spent most of her 26 years after the accident lying in bed. In one of her interviews, according to the English subtitles, she said that she had many medical issues, and pain every day. I really wish that somehow she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and that she's been comforted since 2006. It comes to my mind the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. Elena was just like Lazarus. Luke 16:19-31.

Please, take your bible-bashing somewhere else, it is totally inappropriate. Besides that, elite-sports isn't healthy, physically, and it promotes idolatry in the spiritual sense. Nonetheless, Elena Mukhina is the greatest female gymnast who ever lived..

Even after Elena's accident, she could've had a chance of getting something fixed, if they had performed surgery on the same day of the accident, but they waited until the third day. I read that the doctors said, only 2% or 3% of people with such fractures, survived. It was only on the third day, when they saw that she was still alive, that the surgery was done. Who knows, maybe she could've been a paraplegic instead of a quadriplegic?

LOL I really do like this woman commentator. And the man is not bad either, but I just love how POSITIVE she is. She always has something nice to say about the gymnasts and is very knowledgeable.
