Remember that Youna is very young and quite new to the international scene. I think we need to wait before we pass judgement on whether she can handle or not her difficulty. Those are new skills for her and the idea might be to throw the skills now in order to get used to them.

I don't have any inside info, but I assume that if she is throwing the skills in competition they were fine in practice... Giving the coach the benefit of the doubt. She crashed her double pike because she was distraught after her fall on her double layout and she crunched the hell out of her ankles on her double layout, that had to affect the rest of her program. And if I recall my competition days, there IS a difference landing skills in competitions under pressure and in practice.

Which skill? Did not she debut the double layout at Europeans? It is one of the first time that I have seen her crash the double pike. Remember, even with experienced gymnasts, it sometimes takes a while to get a skill... (ie Blaine's double front on vault - which he eventually got beautifully). There is only one cure for inexperience, she has to compete. Now if the skills look that scary in practice then yeah, I agree with you... but I think it is still a little early to tell.

I'm sure that it is considerably harder to land skills in competition than in practice, but this is not the first time that this particular gymnast has had VERY scary falls performing the same trick over the last few months. She has consistently landed it badly, andvery dangerously, over the last few months. Sure, maybe she was nailing it in practices over the last few months, but if your gymnast is consistently crashing on a skill, that is a problem.

poor youna, but it seems that she hasn't got much luck, she is having problems at a lot of competitions. it is it her or is it her coach? her coach seems to be really harsh and pushy.

She hasn't had much luck as a senior to date.. she did badly at the American Cup as well..

I think you're being very generous. I'd say the commentary really sucked. This guy seemed to be more concerned about the physical appearance of the gymnasts (completely innapropriate) than in their routines. Additionally, he was making negative comments all the time!

"She's cute" is NOT an appropriate comment from a male commentator! He may have meant she is small and compact and cute in that way, but he sounds like a pervert!

These guys might actually be worse commentators than Monica Phelps and she is awful.
