Where's part 2??? F*cking Helene flooded mine to about the same level. I drained the primary before I ran it and it had the tiniest bit of water in it. Filled it, ran it, drained the primary again and it looked like a milk shake??? My buddies mech said that's not unusual. Anybody know why that is? Anyhow, drained tranny, think I did the primary 2 more times, and it ran fine for a week. Now I get all my lights but doesn't even try to turn over. It's a 2011 so I think they did away with the solenoid after '11. Gonna try this I guess

Hey bro. Just wanted to thank you. My bike just flooded in Milton and I'm no mechanic, but I drained everything out. Did a lot and it seems to run okay bhut started clicking. I took that solenoid off and you wouldn't t believe the corrosion in there in a week. I live on the river, so it was salt water. I cleaned it out, flushed it and it fired right up perfectly Even sounds better than before. Videos are great but you should go into more detail because it'll help more thank you

Most starters are removed for solenoid contact replacement. If you convert to the All Balls one piece starter jack shaft you will never have to pull a clutch hub again. That's because the AB jack shaft does not use the intermediate bushing the multi-piece stock jack shaft requires. This GREATLY speeds future starter removals for solenoid CONTACT REPLACEMENT which on these Denso OSGR Light Duty starters is easy and cheap since millions are used on cars and trucks. (Get the kits with the seals etc. They're about 20 bucks.) It's also a very good idea to take advantage of the Denso coaxial solenoid design and install a pushbutton end cap. Those bypass the entire starter control system including the solenoid windings. If you forget to install that simple end cover and can't start your bike, remove the end cover then use a screwdriver to push the solenoid core inwards (BE SURE your bike is in neutral).

@empcycleworks I know, but it will eat the oil pump eventually. Went through it with my 2012 ultra limited 103. I got 60k on it, and the crank shifted. At that point, I rebuilt the bike in 2022. Now it's amazing(20k later). I have a 24 Road King, so we will see how that goes. Love my Harleys . Like any toys they are not cheap to play with.
@dont.ripfuller65873 ай бұрын
Harley engines have all gotten too large. A 96 inch motor for a motorcycle is enormous. None of us are pulling school busses out of the mud. Pick nearly any 750+ cc crotch rocket motor and put it in a rigid frame and you'll have a faster bike in similar style. 350 Hondas used to be "big bikes" and 500cc up Triumphs were massive. Harley's always been oversized. Don't get me wrong, I still love all of them, I just think there's something being missed being missed chasing after 100ci plus mills.

Ive had 7 Harleys. Ive changed starters on all of them, but this is just stupid. 2004 FXST, I've never had to remove this much shit to change a starter. I think this bike hates me anyway, i have it fir sale and every time i ride it something else breaks. Really. Since I've had it for sale, ive had to replace the battery, fuel pump, sending unit, front tire, battery, and front brakes. Then the starter took a shit. Either it doesn't want to leave, or it just doesn't like me.
@empcycleworks3 ай бұрын
You can get away with not removing the oils tank and the clutch. I just find it easier to do it this way
@motorcitywestauto46743 ай бұрын
@@empcycleworks I couldn't get to the bolts or the electrical on mine without removing the oil tank. And I left the primary intact. I might have to wiggle it a little but the new starter will go in without removing anything else. But I had to pull the old starter out and measure it before ordering a new one so the bike is going to sit there like that for a few days. Just a PITA. I had 2 Sportsters that were a piece of cake. My 88 FLHTCUI was pretty easy too. This one is just stupid.

I have an intermittent gear sound every now and then from my 2000 Heritage Springer that has been described here. Can you give me an estimate of how much the labor alone would be to replace the starter at an indy shop? If it turns out it is just the jack shaft and the ring gear that needs replacing, about how much is the cost? Just a ball park figure. Thx
