What an absolutely beautiful and transfixing find. For someone feeling music as shivers in the shoulders and back this was a 17 min subcutaneous massage. I'm only now discovering this composer, and this piece already stands out. Thanks to the dedicated orchestra for putting it out into the world.

Anyone else reminded of "Star Wars" about 14-15 minutes in?

Anyone who has heard and seen Bernstein do this will find Makela very weak and uneducated. This was a weak interpretation.

4:54 is just so beautiful. Such amazing vibes and an amazing sound. Well done, Rachmaninoff, and Oslo Philharmonic!

I love The Old Castle mainly because it has an alto saxophone, which isn't normally in an orchestra

Amazing what hype can do for someone’s reputation. I don’t mean any disrespect to Makela who clearly loves his music, however, objectively this is not a great interpretation. You only have to try Abbado or Ansermet, masters of their profession to hear the difference. I’m not doubting his talent but he still has a lot to learn which I’m sure he will.

I love this symphony so much. I have no idea why some people slam it. I always read that it wasn’t that good then one day I listened to it and it just blew me away!

This is literally my favorite Baroque piece ever. And I LOVE Klaus' energy (conducting with a staff and not a baton, just like Lully himself). Hope we see more of him! Bravissimo!

Thank you. A superb performance by eneryone. The chorus was excellent. They give all they have. Makela has created a terrific orchestra. He keeps the music moving forward and with everyone fully engaged. That makes all the difference. Beethoven was an (the) inspiring gift to the world. What more can be said about his genius and his ability to overcome his loss of hearing. He never "heard" this. The audience understood that this was unique.

Including Dowland in a symphonic programme is equally unusual as brave and somehow in that particular case splendid idea. The strings imitating the sound of viola consort... mmm... lovely! And Schumanns' Second Symphony is a discovery for me. Played extremely well!

This really is a wonderful performance of this symphony, but why on earth are the audience so uneducated as to clap between movements? God - it's Hamburg in the Elbphilharmonie. Where do they think they are - a rock concert where every number is greeted with applause?
