Have you made a full size quilt with these folded stars? I can't seem to find one on KZbin tutorials.

Don't like the unit, it's much easier to use an object such as a bowl or glass to trace for any dize to use to make the yo yo's.

Freehand cutting with rotary cutter, definitely an advanced skill! Plenty of us mere mortals would cut something we didn't want to. There are plenty of curved double wedding ring templates for use with a rotary cutter, which can in fact cut curves.

Great video - Can you show how to stitch the yo yos together like you show on the quilt in the background? Did you use the orange size and the green size templates for that quilt?

This is nice and fast which is good. The downside, however, is that the outer edge of each block is on the bias which is less stable than straight of grain. Pressing must be done very carefully to avoid distortion.

how wide do you cut the strips?
@asinheaven
@asinheaven 4 жыл бұрын
When taking that first cut on the edge of the fold, why not cut it at half the width of your bias strips so you can unfold it and use it also? This is the longest piece and seems a shame to waste it. Thank you for this really well done tutorial.

for speed, cut a long strip of fabric, fold in half and press, fold in each "hem", press again and then cut....much faster

If making this to use as a hotpad, one can also make a Flying Goose piece - the fabric will be doubled, hence giving it more layers for heat use.

one way to minimize waste is to not use a white rectangle, but calculate a the square to make 2 HST's . Then the only waste is the little bit that is cut off the colored rectangle at the end. I worked on that method today after watching McCall's and seeing N. Zieman's method. It works quite well. Determine the size of the finished square and add 7/8's and cut once on the diagonal. Also, the corner clipping tools work really well too for corners on the rectangle.

I just got my kit in the mail. Are they fabric yardage guidelines for making the arches with solid fabrics instead of piecing each arch? I'm planning a king size topper and want to use batiks. I just can't wrap my head around the amount of yardage I will need - thank you.

too much talking and repeating. One could iron the tubes as long as they had one of those nonstick things down on their board.
