Kathy, I just bought this ruler today and found your demo by searching You Tube. Your explanation was excellent, Very clear and precise. I also like your energy. I can tell you really enjoy what you do. Thanks for providing this tutorial.

THIS must be the absolute best tutorial I have seen about the half-square triangle. That tricky bias cut of fabric is just unavoidable and has to be dealt with in the proper way. In addition to finger pressing that seam, I find that spray-starching and pressing the fabric before cutting and sewing also aids me in keeping the fabric more stable so that it doesn't turn wonky! Thanks, Quilt Patch for a really good lesson!

Thank-you so much for this video. I was wondering why the tool would be helpful and you really made it clear how much simpler the math is with the tool. I've done half square triangles the other way and now I think there is a ruler in my future and cutting this shape from strips.

LynAnne Smucker, you're welcome! Learning how to use the ruler makes half-square triangle projects *waaaaay* easier. :D

watching for a second time, as I am starting a bear claw quilt and I had you saved to watch again, now I have a HST ruler not the one you shown however as I see what it is that you do I know I can have great units and save a bit of fabric on the way. Thanks for terrific video.

I just watched your video and enjoy watching you explain the half sq. triangle. You made it very understandable. Will be following your future videos. Show us how to get the triangle points to match up every time went we piece the triangle blocks together.

How cool, JimFranzRT!! A demo on the quarter-square triangle part of the ruler is coming soon so you'll be able to master the whole ruler!

I am new to quilting, I really enjoy this tutorial. Every pattern, class and video state a quilters seem is 1/4 you are the first to say 1/2 is this new?

I've not struggled with sewing bias seams...the struggle usually comes while pressing bias seam allowance- trying to keep it square is the challenge. If you prefer the two at a time, square up method, Creative Grid has that covered too! It's called Half Square 4-in-1 Triangle Ruler (CGRBH1). It lets you use any of the 4 most popular methods for half square triangles:)

Hi Kim! A 1/4" is definitely a quilter's seam allowance. You need a 1/4" on both sides which equals a 1/2" :))

I think this demo is missing the sewing of the bias seams. I would rather do the two at a time method & then square up with a triangle ruler but maybe this is not that kind of ruler. I hoped it was because I like the grips on the ruler.
