@trailrax
@trailrax Ай бұрын
Hey Thomas, When it comes to mounting most tents on the TRMR Rack we like to recommend getting our HD Tent Mount Kit. If you have the same exact tent shown in the video then you can get away with our 4 Pack of HD Tent Mounts, due to the tent being lightweight. If you plan to have an awning mounted as well look into getting the 1.5" rise as that will help give you the clearance to mount the awning brackets. Both the 1" rise and 1.5" rise will help installation as that will give you more room to install. Also, when installing the tent our installers found that removing the hardtop panels above the driver and passengers will make it easier accessing those tight spots to tighten bolts and nuts.
@DennisGaudenzi

You guys skip some of the hardest steps in this video. How on earth do you get the little nuts on the bolts that are part of the bronco above the windshield? It's absolutely impossible. There's zero space in there.
@trailrax
@trailrax 2 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for your comment, We usually get the washers and nuts over the factory studs in the front via some needle nose pliers or some smaller hands, then tighten down with a 10mm ratcheting wrench. Some have found loosening the deflector or removing it entirely helps with access to those nuts so you can tighten them down. Hope this helps!

@@trailraxright. Just seems like you out things together and then loosen them to tighten again. That whole process should be reviewed to be simplified. So in the process os installing my trail pax raxk and was wondering why the 3 washers for the Raptor? Would it not make the top sit higher?
@trailrax
@trailrax 3 ай бұрын
great question! For the additional washers on the Raptor, it is to clear some additional hardware that normal broncos do not have, with that said, it still does not effect or change the height of the hardtop on where it sits, in fact it still sits in the factory location because we do not use the same mounting location as the hardtop. This way it completely isolates the lower Pak Rax mount on its own. If you have any more questions, let us know!

Ultimately the measurement between driver and passenger side needs to be the same, to ensure the rack is centered on the vehicle.

I bought a TrailRax TRMR rack (With Pak Rax) and this kit for our Bronco and Alu-Cab 3-R tent. I assembled the rack, HD tent mounts and Alu-Cab load bars on the floor before installation, which made that part of the job much less of a PITA than it would have been. I can confirm that the crossbar spacing on the rack is 12" inside (NOT 14" as stated in this video) and 16" outside; however, if you're using the TrailRax rack, no measuring is required since the predrilled holes in the rack automatically provide the correct spacing. Also, one of the crossbars is not needed for the tent mounts so you can leave it off if you want to save a couple pounds. I added a set of their billet reinforcement braces which were easy to install and appear to add significant strength for a tiny weight penalty and modest cost. Installing the tent and mounting brackets was pretty tedious! It was helpful to have a comprehensive set of tools, including ratcheting box wrenches. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT get the full set of GP factor offset mounts, but only get the two little front ones, which I believe are called "Lopro Alucab Mounts". Instead I would just use the four stainless steel mounts that come with the tent. There are two reasons for this: First, to save a few $$$. Second, and more importantly, the offset of the rear-most GP mounts do not allow you to install the bracket for the Alu-Cab rain fly in the proper position. Yes, you can still mount it, but functionality is compromised. It was frustrating to have to remove one of those GP mounts from my completed assembly and replace it with the Alu-Cab part. Really, the only "secret sauce" in this kit is the set of HD tent mounts, which are very high quality. The Alu-Cab load bars are available elsewhere, but the price for the set of 3 from TrailRax was reasonable. I just completed this installation yesterday and, after getting past the aforementioned hiccups, I'm extremely satisfied with the result. The tent is rock-solid. We'll be taking it on a short trip this weekend and are very much looking forward to trying it out!

We also have tie down point accessories, the Smiley. If not, you can use the side panels of the rack in the slots to tie down your gear! it is designed for it. Slots are also used as a mounting point for hardware should you need to use them. Then of course our crossmembers offer a great solution to mount even more hardware.

I'm confused. Aren't your crossbars 2" wide? If so, the 14" and 16" measurements are impossible - it would have to be a 4" difference to allow for the size of 2 crossbars. Do the tent mounts work with the cross bars mounted using the standard "fixed" holes in the side rails, or do some of them need to be moved? If I used this setup, could I simply unbolt the tent mounts (yes, I know it's a total of 36 bolts) from the rack's crossbars and lift the whole assembly off when the tent isn't needed? It looks like those bolts would be relatively easily accessible with a ratcheting box wrench, or hopefully a low-profile battery powered ratchet wrench. (Maybe use the 1.5" tent mounts to give more clearance for a power tool?)
@trailrax
@trailrax 8 ай бұрын
Yes the Crossbars are 2" wide. The measurements are not impossible. They work in TrailRax's "fixed" holes, Other brands may differ, hence us giving you the dimensions needed for space between each crossbar. You could unbolt the tent mounts but we recommend unbolting from the Alucab load bar off our tent mounts and leaving the tent mounts on. It is less bolts and nuts to loosen and remove.
@markpatrick9452
@markpatrick9452 8 ай бұрын
@@trailrax Thanks for the prompt reply. I see your point about fewer bolts, but the bolts you mention seem like they would be difficult, if not impossible, to reach once the whole thing is assembled, or am I missing something? Regarding the impossibility of the measurements, if you did not misspeak when you said '14" from inside edge to inside edge and 16" From outside edge to outside edge' then those measurements are, in fact, impossible. Think of it this way: If the two crossbars were against each other (i.e., 0" between inside edges), the outside edges would be 4" apart (2 x 2" crossbars). If you increase the inside measurement to 14" as stated in the video, the outside edge distance would increase by the same amount and be 18" apart, NOT 16"

While yes we offer an optional add on of our Pak Rax, at a price of $500 additional on top of the cost of the Bronco TRMR Rack, it would be unfair to factor in an accessory to your cost analysis vs other options on the market.
