I'm not a Hollywood professional or a filmmaker, but I'll give my opinion as a cinephile who loves cinematography. 2.39:1 is a very good ratio, but consider it when the focus of your project emphasizes the scope of environments, in other words, when it has an epic appeal, or frames action scenes with many characters on screen or historical battles in large open fields. In short, if you are going to work with a lot of very horizontal shots, use 2.39:1, as the framing will be great. BUT, if that's not your focus, I would recommend.... 👉 the Standard Widescreen cinema ratio, known as 1.85:1, which is great for capturing close-ups and tall elements like a building or a taller monster/dinosaur (the first three Jurassic Park films were exactly in 1.85:1, to make that primitive lizards look big on the screen) or even.... 👉 the "alternative" 2:1 ratio, often used on Netflix and in some movies from time to time these days. 2:1 has considerable horizontal range, but at the same time also has good headroom for the height scale. In a very summarized way: 2.39:1 - Epic environments and gigantic panoramas with lots of horizontal action; 1.85:1 - Focus on characters, close-ups and/or very tall things/creatures but still keeping a nice width; 2:1 - If you want a balance between the previous two ratios. AND PLEASE, avoid 1.78:1 (the HDTV 16:9 ratio), it looks too TV, not CINEMA, because, believe it or not, the thin black bars of the 1.85, which make this frame slightly wider, make a difference at this point ... and as for even narrower ratios, you end up losing a lot of width, so I beg you, forget them (the "vintage ratios", like the old 1.33 and also the 1.66 are considerably limited, because they visibly sacrifice the width and environment looks cut). Thanks 😀😊☺👍

Im going to try all of this. Im recording with my phone. The game I play is a landscape mode game. Main reason being I need my videos in portrait mode for youtube shorts but as you can see, my recent videos are very line-y and its distracting to the viewers. And someone said to screen record on the computer itself, that would still make it landscape mode. I also thought about recording a 2021 samsung tablet screen instead. My goal is better quality videos. Any recommendations?

Is there any advantage to having the pulley wheels on the outside of the rails as opposed to the inside? I have a BMPCC4K with a Sigma zoom and it's front heavy. I'm looking to get the most stability.

This video is such a valuable resource to just throw someone's way to teach them to slate. All the basics are covered perfectly. Only thing I can see missing is PU after the take number for pickups. Great video, thank you for making it.

Thanks for all the information sir! I have a shortfilm I will be making and need two short (and one 6-8 second) vfx shot(s) for. One in particular I want to "quality control" as it were, is an afternoon shot in a vast interior space that has fully dispersed, warm, bland lighting. I will have a plate shot with far field background and a portion of wall as foreground and this vfx shot is a jumpscare of a creature of some sort. I know that day time vfx is much more difficult to make it look realistic. Do you have any tips on how to light the area or prepare perhaps a stand in live action asset in order to make my cg asset sit into the environment naturally? Thanks for the artist suggestion on upwork as well. Been using fiverr and they are pretty decent, but I'll have some money to blow so I want some high quality horror vfx. Thanks in advance!

When did the Vertical Hold control change the incoming video frame rate? It is a rough adjustment for the vertical frame rate on the monitor to sync to the incoming video, close enough that the blanking pulse can lock in the frame rate.
@klawrence1987
@klawrence1987 Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t change the incoming frame rate. It is used to sync the television with the incoming frame rate. If the TV looks fine with a 29.97 fps signal and then you switch to a 23.98 fps signal, the vertical hold will need to be adjusted to stabilize the tube to match the incoming frame rate.
