If you can't afford a Canon Tilt/Shift lens go for it. But Canon is king of Tilt/Shift lenses with the best in 17mm, 24mm, 50mm, 90mm and a 135mm. 17mm and 24mm are best for Landscape and Architecture. 90mm and 135mm are best for product, food and creative portrait. 50mm, 90mm and 135 are all great for macro or miniature look shots with selective focus. Don't save money in your glass, if you can't get a new Canon lens get a used one. +9 or over will be better than the Laowa for sure. Even a CAMBO adapter would be better if you want to use the optics you already have. Tilt/Shift photography is a great tool but not one to be used by an amateur for to many things. Selective focus, perspective control and creative effects are some good reasons to get one. But have in mind they are not cheap, they are manual focus and you must have your camera on a good tripod for best results.

I understand brand loyalty is strong in the camera community but being that this lens was only released today, it's probably a little early to say every canon lens is better, especially when price is indeed a big factor for most people. Being that this is my first experience of tilt shift, I can't attest to the quality of other lenses. I don't find it particularly helpful to say an entire technique or style is "not for amateurs" when it could well be the very thing that sparks a passion or advances the learning curve for someone. Everyone starts somewhere and it's better to encourage discovery and learning techniques than to discourage people from giving it a go. Having said that, I do agree that a tilt shift lens is a big investment if you're not sure you need those capabilities, and that a tripod is essential. Manual focus is already the norm for most of us coming from a macro background anyway.

@@Adaptalux fair to say with other types of lenses. Fair to say with some other brands that have made it clear that they can do lenses at the same specifications of native lenses to a camera like SIGMA or ZEISS and some few specific lenses of specific brands that some times can be an option. But Tilt/Shift lenses are a case of little margin of error. Its a tool of power but one that is very demanding with the user. Not a tool "play with" or just give a try. Some thing most people should rent before they buy. If you want some thing for fun that wont cost to much LENSBABY could be a better option and still something to play with out waisting time and money.

Half way through this video, had to pause to just say thank you for taking your time and explaining things in such a wonderful and easy to understand manner. I don't know you but I can see you are a good man and good human. Big hugs bro. I am in China at the moment, attempting to start my own watch brand. My budget is very tight and I have been let down by the people who were supposed to do the photography of the watches. I would be most grateful if I could perhaps speak to you or email you? I am happy to pay for your time if necessecary. Kindest Regards, Sunny

About 40 years ago I created a view of Earth from outer space for my film camera. My scene didn't have the option of postprocessing since I was photographing my scene with Kodachrome slide film. I used glitter and small plastic gems on a black fabric to simulate stars of different colors. For the Earth, I used a sticker of the Earth that had been photographed from a satellite. The final image was quite realistic although stars might be fainter next to the brightly lit Earth. The reason I am mentioning this project from long ago is because the use of glitter and small plastic "gems" gave good color to the stars and made for a quite realistic background.

Using a Spray bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 glycerin can put drops on the petals that can make an average flower really special. You might consider showing how to take photos of hospice level(dead or almost dead) flowers. Some of them age like Sophia Loren, and others more like Bridget Bardot!
