not a bad little percussion piece. "The present day composer refuses to die."

You would think music gets more familiar the more you listen to it. But with Neo-Classical its the other way around. It sounds stranger every year i come back to it. Dont know what i should think about this. I appreciate the composers work even more. But its so hard to listen carefully. I think its much about the surprise/nonsurprise. Its not about the form itself or the harmonies or melodies its about the variance they are strangely mold together.

With this symphony - and K466 - Mozart perfected the piano concerto form. It's mind boggling to consider that he first revealed both of them in a live performance on the very same night. Of all the great gigs in history, I think THAT is the one about which I'd love to say, "I was there"!

There are much better options, for example Moravec/Marriner. Here, it’s mainly the orchestra that’s very soporific (and poorly recorded).

I get the feeling from watching this score while the music is playing a sense of how Mozart may have composed. It’s just something to do with looking at an empty sheet of music and immediately knowing where the music lies on the page. Then filling out each section as if you’re painting it with a brush stroke. Because we know Mozart composed his music in his head so well that the whole of it was there before writing it down. Even though there’s evidence he made sketches. And also, he was known to have a phenomenal memory. So perhaps, unlike Beethoven, he could put pen to paper. And compose without a lot of revision. Ah, if one could look into the mind of Mozart for a brief moment!
