Natalie and Aretha sang with so much soul and compassion. I'm just realizing they have similar sound. Lol, neither would agree, especially Aretha!!!! 😊😊😊😊

As a music major in college, I read quotes from the likes of James Brown, Etta James, Patti LaBelle and Aretha, where they convey the purpose behind REALLY feeling a lyric...and it starts with connecting what your SOUL is telling you to do, with what your voice is capable of conveying. And as James put it "when you connect your voice with your soul, thats when the Holy Ghost walks into the room". Thats what Natalie is doing here...when she closes her eyes on "I Cant Say No", she's not even there...she's not being self aware at all. And her SOUL is taking over. When singers like this are in that state?....you will often hear them singing notes they didnt even know, they could sing. this is one of the reasons why I love me some KZbin...because people are so generous, when it comes to posting old content of the greatest singers we've ever seen or heard. And Natalie is one of those singers. And she's rare in that she started out like a comet with this voice that just blew us away...she then went thru her substance abuse struggles...but when she was in treatment, she stayed away long enough to get her health and voice back to where it was. She didnt come back before she was ready. And when she FINALLY pulled it all together, her voice was in such great shape, it damn near sounded like she had never abused it in the first place. Unfortunately, we didnt see that happen with Whitney...and by the time Aretha stopped smoking completely, it was too late for her to resolve all the damage she had done to her voice. Natalie, is the one vocalist, who knew that it was going to take a lot of time to get her voice back to where it once was...and she committed herself to being patient and diligent. I miss her A LOT. And I like to think if she was still alive, she would probably be doing more jazz than anything else, because jazz was her foundation.
