I came across your videos three years ago and ever since then have been painting projects using Kimple Translucents. I love the technique and your videos have been extremely helpful. This Santa sleigh was one of my projects. Early on, I actually called you the "sleigh lady" so my husband would know who I was talking about lol. I miss not seeing more recent videos of your beautiful projects. You are truly an inspiration!

What are you using when you say pull back ?
@lauriegift4817 ай бұрын
Hopefully, I can explain. When I say 'pull back', I mean that as I am rubbing the area with the cloth (in this case, girls cotton underwear, I LOVE using underwear as it is the perfect size and softness), the paint will get rubbed off leaving behind a beautiful soft color with lots of depth and brightness. I hope that makes sense. Please ask other questions and I would be happy to answer them. Both Kimple Translucents and Fashionhue paints will provide this beautiful effect and both of them are incredibly easy to use. My cell is 712 283-6129. Feel free to call me anytime if you wish.

Is the cloth dry or wet ? And can I use this method with duncan and mayco paints ?
@lauriegift4817 ай бұрын
@@dawnpassalacqua9356 The cloth should always be dry. This method won't work with Duncan or Mayo paints. It will only work with Kimple Translucent paints or Fashionhue paints. Let me know if you have any other questions.🙃

I'm so glad Ive found you & praying you can possibly help me! My Father in law graciously gifted me several amazing & beautiful vintage santa figurines that his father hand painted every year starting in 1990 very similar to your beauties! but they are in need of some cleaning & paint touch ups just from normal wear over the years & I don't want to do it wrong or god forbid ruin anything ! Any tips and/or products you could recommend to clean and then touch up the paint? I'm sorry for rambling..I've been searching all night for some type of info or video and yours in the first even remotely close to what I've been looking for!! TIA!! ❤

What do you spray the finished pieces with to give them a sheen. I love your videos. I did this technique of staining and painting about 20 years ago and I now have a nativity set that I want to start. I've learned so much from you and I wanted to thank you for the wonderful tutorials. Another thing I'd like to ask, can you use the Americana acrylic products from Hobby Lobby to paint the pieces with. I don't have a ceramic store in my town. Thank you again.
@lauriegift4819 ай бұрын
For the finished pieces to give them a sheen, I use a gloss Acrylic spray. Watch the very end of my pumpkin video for an example of the Acrylic spray. Yep, you can definitely use the Americana acrylic paints. In fact, Americana acrylics are my favorite brand to use. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I love it! Do paint in stains?
@lauriegift48111 ай бұрын
I have never used stains. I believe stains are the same as acrylic paints in the sense that they are permanent and can't be wiped off, but I'm not 100% sure about this. I like to use Kimple Translucent paints as the color can be pulled back and provide the beautiful effects that are shown in the video. I hope that helps.

Not sure if you are still reading these messages but I was wondering, I’ve seen so many pieces that have such detail. In the crevices, it looks like they used antique stain but in whatever color that area was painted. Could you paint your piece with acrylic paint, then go over each area with the matching color of the Kimple Stain and then wipe it back so the area or object shows the acrylic, but the crevices show the Kimple Stain??? I hope this makes sense LOL
@lauriegift4813 жыл бұрын
Your question makes sense and yes, you could do that. Having said that, my experience has been that simply using the Kimple Translucents provides the best results with amazing detail. I know that sounds weird, but the Kimple Translucents produce the most amazing results. I hope that makes sense and I would be happy to answer any other questions that you may have.

Can I use acrylic instead of translucent stains for the colors on top of the Kimple walnut translucent?
@lauriegift4813 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid using acrylics on top of the translucent stains won't work because the translucent stains contain oil, which will cause an issue with acrylics. I'm sorry for the bad news.

Beautiful Don’t you have to base coat?
@lauriegift4813 жыл бұрын
Base coat is not required if you use Kimple's primer or a quality gesso primer. If you don't use a primer, then yes, you would need to apply a base coat using an acrylic paint. I personally love using primers as they are thinner and easier to apply. In particular, I absolutely love Kimple's primer as it is soooo easy to apply. It is the perfect consistency and doesn't dry as quickly as an acrylic paint. I hope I answered your question. Let me know if you have any other questions. Laurie Gift
@lauriegift4813 жыл бұрын
For this item, it is not necessary as long as you apply several coats of primer. Having said that, it will not hurt anything to apply a base coat as well. I hope that helps.

I use soft Filbert brushes that I bought at my local craft store "Michaels". For this project, I used a medium size 8 and large size 12 and 14 Filbert. You can either purchase Artists quality or craft quality...either will work as long as the head is very soft....no bristle brushes, they must say Filbert, which means they will be soft. Any brand will work. I hope that helps. Let me know if you any other questions and I will try to answer.

Have you ever tried the original Viva paper towels? They are lint free and do a great job with the similar product made by another company.
@lauriegift4814 жыл бұрын
I have tried the Viva paper towels and because some of the projects require a lot of scrubbing, I found that they didn't hold up and would eventually crumble and leave bits and pieces on the item. This will sound crazy, but I absolutely LOVE using girls underwear. It is the perfect softness, thickness and size. Crazy, but they work amazing in the pulling back process.
