Great reaction my friend. It's all about appreciation for that level of game. The man was an incredible player. Check out his games against Jordan in the playoffs. When Larry legend retired Jordan said he was happy to not have that obstacle in his life anymore. An obsolete Jordan never accomplished against Bird. Magic and Bird saved the nba....together, then Jordan took it to the top.

I'm a 50 year old white dude from West Virginia. Basketball has always been pretty prominent, not like the Basketball culture of say Indiana but West Virginia being the birthplace and college career of "The Logo" Jerry West, Basketball commanded attention. I WAS there, for all of it and I wish I could go back without my Jordan biased hatred for Bird and see it again! Dude, I started out a small child watching Dr. J in the 70s and Muhammad Ali's later career, I was insane over Mike Tyson because my Dad and I bonded over boxing early and Ali was his generation and Tyson was mine. Witnessed Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Sugar Ray Lenard, Walter Payton, my Beloved 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers going from one of the worst teams in the league for decades until 1969 then a Dynasty by the end of the 1970s... so many more I'm forgetting, pretty historic when you really sit back and evaluate everything that happened in the span of 50 years. Pittsburgh Steelers LITERALLY changed the game of professional football possibly forever when the league changed the rules for covering and defending receivers beyond 5 yards. The Mel Blount rule. Steelers legendary defense forced a rule change in 1977 only to benefit a predominantly run team in Pittsburgh to then have Lynn Swann and John Stallworth who could both use their up's and get the ball which opens up so many more options for Chuck Noll

Larry's 3 point shooting is nothing. Jordan and KD holds the 3 point contest record and unbreakable.

Larry played basketball with adult black guys after school. Larry said they let me play and treated me good . Thats alot of complements and Larry never saw color. Unless a white dude was guarding him.

What y’all miss is the news wasn’t televised the same back then, games weren’t televised live locally not nationally , things went off hours even days later it seems was weird I maybe exaggerating the day thing but you didn’t get the basketball games nearly at the same time as you do today.

If bird hadn’t broken his back he’d probably had won a couple more chips, he wasn’t MJ but he was as good as Magic Johnson

If Yao Ming was in todays NBA, the closest comparison would be Jokic. Yao had great shooting, soft touch, and great vision and passing.

That wasn’t a “white boy” you were watching that was a man with an off the charts basketball IQ who learned the fundamentals of the game. He was humble enough to be thankful for the opportunity to play in the NBA, was loyal to the Celtic organization, his teammates & fans. He was clutch but generous in making opportunities for his teammates. Check out his passes re edit version. I can’t sit through today’s NBA games, much too boring. And frankly watching players hanging on the basket swinging around like squirrels on a bird feeder dunking is not my thing.

Theres WAY to being a great player than magazine cover dunks - dunks are great to watch but most just show, and you risk getting hurt more when you fly up and dunk its hard on ankles, knees, etc

Umm Jordan is not the inventor of the fade away jump shot it's WILT Jordan just made it famous and Kobe made it to where if u didn't say Kobe before you shot a piece of trash in the can u was bugging. Kobe may have carried on tradition from a guard aspect like MJ Dr J Clyde gervin and many other great wing players. For people to act like basketball started with Michael Jordan sometimes it's bogus
