The Anderson needs maintenance, the anti sway collar material wears out The red plastic chain caps get brittle and breaks I found my Anderson worked ok on our InTech Dawn but was worthless on our Airstream 30’ I’m being nice, junk. I had chunking as well I have owned two airstreams two InTechs Dawn and Terra And Fifth Wheels Own a RV Solar and Repair Company Cannot distribute larger amounts of weight forward Get a EAZ LIFT R3 with the proper bars, complete adjustable anti sway with the supplied Allen Wrench

Greetings, thanks for the feedback on your experience. My setup is doing well, no real issues or maintenance required yet. Weight distribution is limited, but it works well enough on the Airstream and thankfully doesn't put quite the stress on the camper frame that the bar systems do. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Looking at a used set of these Elkas with 15k miles. How are yours treating you- miles? Sweet truck!
@MakeItRad
@MakeItRad 26 күн бұрын
Greetings. The Elkas are holding up great. My only challenge with them is the low speed compression adjustment is a little challenging. The adjustment knob can be a bit difficult to turn by hand. Outside of that, no rust (aluminum bodies) and the seals are all in great shape, no leaks, and they clean up quite easily. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Tundra is weak on Payload and the Airstream is already at 800 lbs of tongue weight and add your interior front gear/ items plus bed items and passengers; something tells me you’re at max or over your payload. All that rubber your using as tires make it worse! Now I do appreciate you going through this;

Beautiful TT; don’t understand why you are given a NorCold Fridge with the cheap wire shelves? When your dropping some serious $ on an Airstream? I had that same Fridge on my previous TT which was only $22k but with the glass shelves and one large slide shelf for large drink bottles etc.. I don’t get it? Absolutely gorgeous travel Trailer.

Thank you, I never really noticed the shelves, it's certainly not a bother and probably helps for airflow. We like that it is a 12v model and has much more space than the propane / electric. Power draw has been an nonissue and it doesn't need the vents cut into the exterior for airflow. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Your problem with a Tembren is when it is slightly loaded. When the gap is not fully taken up but closes up when on a rough road, you can feel it. When fully loaded, it rides fine. Airbags, you have more maintenance and it doesn't seem to help if you have issues with porposing. RAS seems to work well in all aspects.

The instructions say to lift it from the rear differential. Put stabilizer jacks on the front of the spring then lower it back down, You're saying it's better install by lifting from the frame
@MakeItRad
@MakeItRad 3 ай бұрын
I believe you want the rear axle on full droop and the frame supported by jack stands. I would be worried about supporting the truck from the front of the spring. The tundra in stock form requires half of the spring shackle to be removed, I wouldn't want any of the truck weight on the spring while doing that. Instructions for your application may differ, if you have the instructions, follow those. Thanks for watching and commenting.

How has this been since install? I went a different route in mine but looked real hard at the Vlite and the Vline 2. How is the resolution on the screen? Any bugs with this system? I ended up doing the Grom BT and a Carpuride screen on top of my dash. I dont like how it looks but it functions well.

Greetings. For me it has been great. I only wanted carplay, so I prefer the simplicity of the VLite over the full VLine. CD quality audio (the factory unit on my Gen 5 Nav sees the Grom as a CD Changer) and the resolution is good.The screen resolution looks clear without any ghosting or artifacts. It has completed a few firmware updates that are optional downloads and those have been great. I am planning to do a follow-up video as well.

Starter failed. Antennae broke. That's it. Oh, and mechanic forgot to put an O-ring on oil filter cap drain plug and I lost 7 quarts of oil over 500 miles (TX to KS). Caught it before I lost the last quart. No issues or metal in the oil. Amazing. Stock shocks and windshield. 17 years old, looks nearly new and runs like when I bought it. I have a 2018 SR5 DC 2WD….i tow a similar sized Lance 2285 that’s around 28’ hitch to rear bumper. Total weight of the camper when loaded with food, bedding, clothes and appliances is around 6500-7000lbs. My weight distribution hitch is an Equalizer with 10,000lb stabilizer bars. I added the blue Sumo Springs last year and have virtually no squat whereas before it would squat about an inch. The Tundra and the Lance sit pretty level with that set up. I still get a little porpoising on undulating highways. All in all I feel I am at the Tundra’s “safe” limit. Rule of thumb that experienced campers use is 80% of the max tow capacity which would be 8,000lb. The Tundra does a great job at reasonable weight limits.
@MakeItRad

Sounds like a nice setup! I have the RAS installed and it works pretty well. With the lift I have, the truck sat level unloaded, so when attaching the trailer, it had a pretty good squat. The RAS has lifted the rear about 1 inch, and when towing I probably have 1.5 inches of squat. I do have the option of adjusting the RAS to the 40% assist, right now its around 25/30% if I really needed the truck to sit level. As is the camper sits level, whish works for me. Correct me if I'm wrong but your leaf springs are wavy which means the truck is overloaded since there is no arch to them anymore. Greetings. I'll have to take a closer look next time I am loaded up with the Airstream. They do the normal 2" squat that most all Tundras do when loaded. I'm nearly certain Toyota designed the first 1/5 inches of travel to be soft, then stiffen up with the bottom leaf thereafter. With factory rake that would put it level, with my level / lift it would ride a bit low in the back. The RAS has helped and I could always tighten to the second spacer for 40% but I like how it rides with the 25-30% setting. Thanks for the comment!

Greetings. I'll politely disagree with regard to interpretation of the manual. Watching the temperatures of coolant, tranmission pan, and torque converter tells the story as well. Manually shifting makes a much cooler, towing experience (Literally). Gearing down for long descents vs riding the brakes, etc, all the benefits, no disadvantage of controlling the shift range.
