There are a few tips and tricks I provide for my students. We spend a few hours tabbing the maintenance logs for all necessary currencies of the equipment of the aircraft the student is flying that day. Usually this is done the day before the check ride or whenever the last flight before the check ride occurs. I request to the manager I will need to get access to the maintenance logs. Reserve the airplane for all day of the check ride (weather) at the very least two weeks in advance. I require two oral mock check rides and one flight check ride with another CFI. I have the students chair fly (visualization) the whole flight from preflight, taxi, pre takeoff checklist, takeoff to cruise. Next is visualize every maneuver before going to sleep, beginning 2-3 days before the check ride. I recommend going over the IMSAFE checklist 4 hours before the flight. Eating as you mentioned is important. I recommend to the students a high protein breakfast with blueberries and a cup of coffee, tea, or chocolate milk 3 hours before the check ride. Red Bull or Monster Drinks is not recommended. I am a pharmacist and have seen students get heart palpitations and shortness of breath from these drinks. Stay hydrated during the oral. Bring lunch which should include protein, like a turkey or chicken sandwich and a banana or other piece of fruit. Weather gathering has always been a most asked question on the oral. The student's process is extremely important to the DPE. Going on Firelight, in mine and the DPE's opinion is minimal. I have found that using aviation weather.gov and giving the students a weather process ensures passing the check ride with flying colors. The last recommendation I can provide for success, besides saying I am fixing the problem if going beyond standards, is looking at the weather and if it is beyond the students minimums, to say I want a deferment and will fly when the weather is better. I did that on my CFII check ride and the DPE said that he was ready to give me the certificate right there and then. Sorry for the long comment, but I do have a 100% pass rate.

Base to final safety is a big one for all of us. Watch out for that inside rudder trying to "fix it" and prevent the overshoot starting at 7:57. Reference the turn coordinator, keep it coordinated (ball centered), allow the overshoot, keep the turn going, and you'll get right back on track with a slight joggle in your approach path. Choose safety over a perfect ground track. Beware overshooting the final into a parallel runway approach path if applicable. Excellent channel, keep it coming, very much appreciate the valuable content!

The DPE, in the short video snippet you showed, is Allen Englehardt. He was United long haul captain (B777) and a big proponent of GA aviation. Sadly, he passed away only a few years after retiring from United. I met him several times at FAA Wings Weekends in Illinois many years ago where he was a speaker/instructor. What a wealth of knowledge he had and shared.

After rescheduling six times for weather (SW Pennsylvania winters are not ideal for flying) I successfully completed my private pilot checkride this morning!! As an almost (but not quite) 50 year old pilot, flight training and passing this ride was at times humbling but vastly rewarding. Apparently, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Watching your video last night helped to give me the confidence I needed to pass. My best advice is relax. By the time of your checkride you know what to do and how to do it. Before each task, take a deep breath and think of what you need to do before you do it. Don’t be in a hurry.

You mentioned taking care of your body day of. Also make sure you do that day prior. Stay away from alcohol day before. Get a good night's rest. And for oral prep, it's best to take a day to decompress before the test. Don't cram until the last minute.

@ well damn, you made me look it up, lol. And yes, appendix 1 of the Private Pilot (and other) ACS: “The evaluator or the applicant may end the test if the applicant fails a Task. The evaluator may continue the test only with the consent of the applicant. The applicant receives credit only for those Areas of Operation and the associated Tasks performed satisfactorily.” That is, an applicant can’t even choose to continue or to discontinue at the point of failure if they aren’t told right away. At that point, they’ve got options, which might include acing everything else on the test and only needing to have a second test flight just on what they messed up.
@LewDixAviationКүн бұрын
@@Kevlux86 If you’ve been told that you haven’t performed something satisfactorily I’d recommend continuing and having a “free shot” (so to speak) at the manoeuvres that are left. Perform them well and check them off the list for the re-test.

Hella impressive! He’ll go far in this field so long as he can study as well as he flies. I say that not out of jealousy but from experience. I won’t lie to myself and say I was as proficient as this kid is by my 2nd flight lesson. However with a ton of flight sim time and 6 years of flying aerobatic model airplanes at a semi-pro level i caught on quick to the techniques of flying. However i failed my PPL written on the first go because i figured i could skate through without much studying. I was proven wrong on that. Super impressive to see someone young who takes to this so quickly! Absolutely a MUST that he continues down this path. The industry needs good hands-on pilots with a natural feel for the airplane.
