Just Some thoughts. We are offgrid and live in a Hot sunny part of the USA down in the south. When we first came here to live off grid we had to come up with solutions for heating water. I used 2 Red colored 5 Gallon Food grade Buckets and filled them with either rain or well water. Both of those buckets sat In the sun for 6 or more hours. They heated up to 110F/118F ( 43.3C/47.7C) hot enough for a shower. This would not work in the winter because there are too many cloudy days and the outside temperature is too cold and can freeze the water in the morning. So we Invested in DC to DC Heating elements and brought the water inside to run off the solar panels. Mind you have have access to a Solar PV array around 4,500 watts running at 118v DC. Technically we could use 120 volt AC Water heating elements for this purpose. I need safety in my setup so we need to do Math using ohm's law. Idea is to use a 20 amp DC break between the water heater and Solar. I cannot exceed a certain wattage so I must stay under 20 amps on the breaker. The math ( 20A x 120 = 2,400 watts ) So now we are dealing with 2,400 watts as a heating element I have to source. I do not want to pull this much power off the system. So I must use a much less resistive DC Heating element. I also need to charge my batteries up to power the off grid cabin. After one year of recording wattage we find December through February produces between 1,500w and 2,400 watts max when the sun is out and between 390 to 900 watts on partly cloudy days. We settled on a 350 watt DC heating element that could slowly heat our 5 gallon system up over a few hours ( 4 hours to get to temperature) and stay under the lowest power production. Math to size the system is as follows... 118v x 3 amps = 354 watts So it looks like a 5 amp fuse will service this set up with an On/Off switch and breaker box. The breaker box has a copper wire grounding the system in case of a short. We can choose when to start heating the water during the cold months by flipping a switch. I use a small floating Thermometer to read temperature and know the water is ready once we get over 110F ( 43.3C ) It's a very basic system that uses low wattage and time and runs directly off the solar panel array making the system very basic. Adding in a breaker and on/off switch adds some protection along with the break box grounding. We added double sided reflective Bubble wrap around the Bucket for extra Insulation and wrapped it twice. This is 3.5R x2 provides 7R of thermal resistance around the bucket. <- This helps heat the water a little faster and keeps it hotter longer when not being used. It's not the most powerful system but, I can take a warm shower in the winter and we use what we have available. A few Years later we upgraded to a 1,500 watt bucket float style heating element that runs off the inverter and uses AC power. We can now heat water in 20 minutes in summer or 33 minutes in winter. Much faster on demand system for our needs. Thanks to anyone the found this story. I hope it gives you a general sense of doing things as shown in this video. We just did it our way. Good luck and wiring things up safely.

Additional Notes. You can use any dark colored water tank Black, dark blue, Red, Brown and sit your bucket in the sun and then use natural thermal radiation from the direct sun to heat the water for a warm to hot shower if you live in a constant sunny country that has mostly sunny days to heat water without power. Remember the darker bucket, barrel or tank the quicker it absorbs thermal heat. Building a 3 sided metal or wooden box behind it painted black with boost the heat production. Adding a clear Plastic cover like a greenhouse over the unit will also with boost the heating and retain the heat longer at night. This will help you shower warmer if you work all day and get home late.
