This is 12v (infact 9 to 10 volt) DIESEL ENGINE heater glow plug. Maximum 20 amp. Good idea and video. In my opinion glow plugs are not designed to glow for such a long time, plugs are ignited for few seconds to start diesel cold engine. You may also use 12 volts water heater on battery and solar to warm the water as mentioned in earlier comments. These heater plugs are available on all auto parts stores which deal in 12 volt diesel car, van, mini trucks like shahzor in Pakistan etc.

This is a scam! The solar panel (100-300W) is not able to give enough electricity to heat the water in a 60-120l drum within 1 hour! Cheat of the creator of the YT movie. Don't be fooled! It's simple physics! (example: the law of water density on a tone allows). Not to mention all the rest .... For example. A 100W solar panel throughout the day (super sunny day) would heat water in a 100l barrel (drum) probably by: 1 * C (Celsius). How does this relate to this movie ... ???

Sorry, but this is plain BS. One glow plug is about 120W. So you have 240W. Water has a thermal capacity of 4200J/(kg x K). So to heat up 10 Liters of water from 10 to 65°C, so 55K, you need 640Wh, no losses considered. With only 240W of power, it would take 2.67 hours... you seem to have at least 50 or more liters, so it would take 10 hours, but in that time, it would loose most of the heat to the environment => Total BS! Sure, you can use glow plugs, Diesel cars use them also to help heat up the coolant... BUT they are more than 10$ each.

no matter how long go heat 50 liter or 100 liter water solar panel can use alltime ON non need OFF only upper temperature need relay OFF power. because if has heat water can keep this warm easy and no matter how long time go heat all barrel, and if use water come new could wate3r automatic werty little amount at time in barrel heat fast this. same than solar heater no matter how long go but if have hot can keep all hot and new come in barrel only little ewerrytime and fast can heat. because in barrel have hot water what mix and then not need heat full all.

To heat 100 l of water from 10 to 60 degree you need 5.8 kWh. There is no Isolation. So you need more than 5.8 kWh. This with one solar panel. Dream on.

Pfff, It's a very big solar panel, according to its size ~450W one. A barrel filled less than for half ~35l. Plastic is a great isolator itself. No losses at any things except wires and contacts. Easily reachable within a few sunny hours. I saw similar things, not an invention.

Run a 12 volt pump directly off the solar panel, thru 100 feet of black rubber garden hose... then circulate it thru the barrel ..... Much easier, No parts epoxied on that you can't change later... and it eliminates the battery which at that size will not last long enough to really heat the water... Remember that battery has a life cycle.. you can only kill it so many times before it's going to sulfate and die

A lot cheaper and efficient to buy a roll of black poly pipe and conect one end to the bottom of the tank and the other three quarters of the way up but still under water. Roll out the poly pipe in the sun and WALLA stinking hot water. This works on the principal of hot water rising. The glow plug went red hot with a battery but how hot will it get with a solar panel. They draw a LOT of current. Stick with black poly pipe and insulate the tank. Bury it under a pile of dirt and grass works great. Lived like that for years.

It's something that must become everyday and common but you should know how to apply and how it works. And showing films that are misleading is unfair. I do not hate and dispel doubts. i don´t believe, that with one solar panel can be such volume of water (the barrel about 50-80L) be heated up from 10.5 to 65.5°C in one hour! how much power can give one panel? according to the equation Q = m·c·ΔT you need for 50L about 3,2 kWh, such fv panel i´d like to have :-)
@MrCrankyface
@MrCrankyface 2 жыл бұрын
Could be possible, thought it was fake at first too. But the drum looks rather small judging by his hand on the lid and at 1:39 you can barely make out "39.9 kg", so lets estimate with 40 liter instead. ΔT of 55c then gives 2.55 kWh, which a 450W(you can freely buy up to 520W or so) solarpanel can manage in ~6 hours if we're counting optimal solar input. 6 hours is reasonable time frame for "leaving for some time" BUT you also need to account for all the sun the barrel itself is catching. I cannot be bothered to try to calculate that but I would imagine it'd have a noticeable effect on the heat of the water, at least initially. Yet another consideration, if the enviroment is 30c hot, then you're yet again not needing that much power from the solarpanel. So obviously needs more facts, but it's not entirely implausible. Edit: Nevermind, I missed the "after an hour" headline, but I also missed that the barrel only seems half-full which would then be 1.3kWh. Even at that fill level, it makes it highly unlikely in that short time span.
@jamesbrown99991
@jamesbrown99991 2 жыл бұрын
Wow... so fake. That did not happen in 1 hour. For a 200W panel, 30L water, from 10°-65°, it would take >9 hours.

This is a hocus-pocus videoclip., with fake and impossible results according to the material shown in this videoclip. It shows only the measured temperature but nothing else. And this makes me very skeptic. Here are the facts: to calculate the kilowatt-hours (kWh) required to heat water, the following formula can be used: Pt = (4.2 × L × T ) ÷ 3600. Where: L is the number of liters of water that is being heated. T is the difference in temperature from what you started with, listed in degrees Celsius. Pt is the power used to heat the water, in kWh. Estimating the values according to the videoclip images the following: - The electrodes were placed about 15 cm high. The water covering the electrodes looks to be higher the 15 cm above the electrodes. Lets consider 15 + 10 = 25 high. - The diameter of the tank looks something between 40 and 50cm. Assuming 44.5 cm diameter, so 22.25 cm radius. The volume of water can be calculated then to be approximately = 25 cm high x (radius 22.25 cm)^2 x 3.14 = 39740 cm3 = 40 liters. Temperature goes from 10.6 to 65.5 degrees Celsius. so a difference of 54.9 Celsius degrees. Therefore, Pt = (4.2 × L × T ) ÷ 3600 = (4.2 x 40 liters x 54.9 degrees Celsius) / 3600 = at least 2.56 kWh needed Only one solar panel was shown, and tipically these solar panels provide with a maximum peak of 250W/h, or 0.25 kWh. This means that the solar panel needs to run at least 10.24 hours non-stop at full capacity to be able produce these 2.56 kWh, and not just 1 hour as claimed. And this cannot be produced with only 1 solar panel in just one day! By the way, to produce 2.56 kWh in just 1 hour at least 10 solar panels will be needed! Note: I didn't want to discuss other matters like thickness of the cables (resistance and losses due to DC current), losses on the solar panels (by running non-stop at full sunlight), temperature dissipation on plastic, etc. which all lead to more energy losses so longer exposure time (or more solar panels) needed.

Those glow plugs require alot of amperage... The you need 2-3 car batteries in order for this to work well.. Also.. the glow plugs are not designed to be on all the time..

It's the most inefficient way to heat water. Solar panels efficiency are between 15% and 20% (sun energy/square meter). Just use a black garden hose, it's more than 50% efficient (sun energy/square meter) and cheaper. The barrel should be thermal isolated (EPS) Black garden hose heat collector: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6eoq6Cdf5qheq8 Sun energy per square meter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3yboKqfgraEqas

It is a great idea and it works. Generating eletricity through photovoltaic panels to heat water is not cost effective. Better use the electricity in other applications and heat the water directly with a solar boiler.

About the least efficient way to heat water, but whatever....it seems to do the job for you. Couple suggestions: Insulate the container! And, install a cheap digital thermostat that can handle the Amps your solar panel puts out, so as to shut off the power to the glow plugs once the water is up to something usable, like maybe 60C

Wehre you get such a powerful solar panel for only 10 $? In my country is 1€ per watt. A 100 Watts panel costs 100€.

Great Idea but I would utilize the Glow Plug threads. Find nuts to fit the threads and large flat washers. Drill the holes with close tolerance for threads and clamp the Plugs rigidly to the barrel, That way you can use Silastic to seal from leaks. Also it will release easier if the Plugs burn out and need replacing. If the plugs burn out too often you could wire them in series. The plugs still should get hot enough but take a bit longer to heat up.

Why not just use black pex in a box with a small pump to circulate it? It'd probably be cheaper and more efficient than paying for a solar panel, converting light to electrical energy, and then converting electrical energy to heat.

Not a good system at all. Glow plugs are not designed to be in water or stay powered on for long periods of time. Also the battery will not last long keep fully discharging at this amperage.

Good morning. I live in Brazil and I really enjoyed your video. I would like to know if you have the purchase link for the resistor that you used on alliexpress? and what is the power of the solar panel you used. A tip you could make one. video using a temperature controller. Because when the temperature reaches a certain temperature, the system automatically turns off.

I am tying this now, but not in a barrel but just a smaller old paint tin and a single glow plug. What I have learned so far: May 100WP Solar penal does not provide enough Ampere (5.5 A) to make the glow plug glow. I will try again with a car battery, which I don't have available right now - it should have 40A. (I connected the glow plug to a battery charger at first and that made the glow plug glow. Just the battery charger switches of after a 2 minutes for some reason )
