I think they colorized the water a little bit? It's really the most gorgeous turquoise-green you have ever seen! Just the right temp in Springtime. You can see your toes even shoulder deep. Sand is like sugar.

I used to walk and play on these very beaches as a kid in the late 50's/early 60's. A WHOLE lost had changed since then. The Beach and Anna Maria was nowhere as crowded as it is now. Most of the changes I have seen in these videos are sadly depressing. I wish everyone could have seen what Bradenton, Bradenton Beach and Cortez was like then; it was a paradise then but not so much anymore. It's not the Bradenton I once knew.

Don't think you're up to it, or can't seem to get there? If the former, know that the rest of the river is much easier than the Cossatot Falls. You can take out at the Falls, or even carry around it. The trickiest part is catching it after a rain.

You must classify rapids differently than Jim Baird does. See video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3-mfpeld8lllbc He runs very raging rapids in that video and he classifies them as threes.
@number4cat1 Жыл бұрын
The Cossatot Falls (at "normal" levels) require accurate boat placement, but are not as turbulent as high volume western rivers. However, flood level is a different matter. So, I would call the Cossatot Falls a low IV at normal levels. An "expert" on steep creeks probably would not.

@@number4cat1 -- Watch the video I linked in my above comment to see what a powerful river and Class 5+ rapids look like. In fact, they are prolly a lot more than Class 5.
@number4cat1 Жыл бұрын
@@3069mark I've been kayaking whitewater for 40 years. Though I have never considered myself a "Class V paddler", I have run Class V rapids. Rapids that were considered Class V 40 years ago are now called Class III+ in some cases. Generally speaking, the less whitewater in a location, the higher the rating assigned it by locals. Again, IMHO, the Cossatot (only the Falls section) is considered Class V in flood, due mostly to hydraulics that form away from the main chutes through the Falls. I would call the Falls Class III+ at normal levels. The level in the video is in the "normal" range.

@@number4cat1 -- I believe you know what you are talking about. All I am saying is the rapids in the video I posted the link for are very impressive. Do you not agree? Jim Baird goes thru them in a canoe. He does not ever use kayaks on his river runs. He is a Canadian and has been running rivers for a long long time. He and his brother Jim was on one season of Alone on The History Channel too. He runs the northern rivers in Canada and Yukon. Those rivers up there are wild rivers and are huge and fast. Another great man to watch is Justin Barbour. He is from Newfoundland. He is currently on a 4000 km one year long trek. If you want to watch him here is the link to his channel: www.youtube.com/@JustinBarbournlexplorer Enjoy!

The old town plaza is gorgeous too!

Reply to Edward Jones. I do remember the Taos Plaza in the early 1970’s. The main population consisted of Natives and Spaniards, with a sprinkling of Angelo’s here and there. Everyone knew everyone!
