Thanks for the words of wisdom shared after the meditation. In the short term when things seem bad, in the long term they turn good or have a better meaning. Through my life, that has always fascinated me. Sometimes, bad things have to happen for the good things to emerge 🙏

it's impossible not to seek as humans. Human beings are seekers. We're looking for the thing that's missing. In this case the thing is zen and being enlightened, being a person who doesn't seek. It is no more noble than pursuing a career or anything else.

A few years back, there were books by a Koike Ryunosuke in the bookstores in Japan. One of them had “not thinking” in the title (in Japanese). If I remember correctly, Koike was a temple monk in a small temple and writing zen inspired books. One day, he posted on his twitter account that he had left the temple and was going to wander as a homeless monk until reaching a breakthrough to enlightenment. I think he gave up after a few months…

Most of us are not in Nirvana. But it's our faults that prevent us from letting go and seeing the unconditioned. / Perhaps like a block of wood that must be carved to reveal the perfect sculpture within.
@ovidiustoica505528 күн бұрын
Muho, would you comment on these excerpts from Kodo Sawaki ? They inculde many themes: suffering and letting-go, the game and the rat race, peace of mind and the usefulness of zazen, non-reacting, finding nirvana within samsara, etc. "Some children have caught a mouse and now it’s writhing in the trap. They’re having fun watching how it scrapes its nose till it bleeds and how it rips up its tail. Then in the end, they’ll throw it to the cat for food. If I was sitting in the mouse’s place, I’d say to myself, “You damn humans won’t have any fun with me!" And I’d simply sit zazen." and "Many believe peace of mind means freeing themselves from suffering in order to always be happy. That’s mistaken. However great our suffering may be, the answer isn’t to thrash around with your hands and feet. It’s to stay calm. If you want to observe the state of a person who doesn’t have any peace of mind, look at a mouse in a trap. It thrashes around with all of its might. Then a man sees it and throws it to the cat who happily eats it. This is how you can understand that thrashing around with your hands and feet is a waste of energy. Instead, sit peacefully in zazen."
@MuhoZen28 күн бұрын
I will probably comment on all of them eventually. I already did all quotes up to chapter 8 (I think the one of the trapped mouse was also in one of the earlier chapters) and hope to do the rest in the coming months (or years?).

Wie grössenwahnsinnig muss Sawaki gewesen sein, wenn er glaubte er könne das ganze Universum sein. In Wahrheit musst Du Dich begnügen mit dem, was Dir gerade zur Verfügung steht.
