I also pack my vibrator because it can be really stressful sometimes when we are worked hard and so sometimes I need to relieve some of that stress during a break in class. We have private bathrooms in my dance studio so its not difficult to get away with. I have no shame.

Anyone got any good summer intensives for serious dancers but don,t want to break the bank completely?
@chrisepstein151316 күн бұрын
My wife had 8, yes 8 between both feet. I have hardware in one of them. I have had to be off my feet for 4 weeks minimum on most of them. I prone to getting plantar fascitis because I have high arches on both feet. Just something I get to live with for now. My suggestions...get a knee scooter to help get around easier. Take pain medicine on schedule whether you really need it or not because when your pain comes, you want it right away and strong pain medicines don't work that way. Good luck with your surgery, will be saying some prayers for you.

I feel like our 'journey's have been so similar! I started dance at age 4 and decided I wanted to be a professional at 17. then I joined a conservatory after high school and was a trainee with a company for 2 years, the second of which was during covid. huge realizations happened after that lol like I just didn't love it anymore and I was mentally so low. I decided not to audition for anymore companies and took a break from ballet, also completely distancing myself from it at all costs. then I did some guest performances and started teaching dance. I got my associates degree in early childhood education and just started teaching at a preschool, which has been so fun! all this to say, I completely appreciate your story and you sharing it because I felt so alone the whole time and didn't think anyone understood what I was going through. and damn, the amount of times my director would tell me not to wear socks at barre... like calm down. I now teach all my ballet classes in socks so HA

You're making it sound like a dancer gets to pick and choose summer intensives based on their own goals. Sometimes you go where you're accepted. Period.

it's just a shift...you will find another passion and you will take every single discipline and structure you know from ballet, into that career, motherhood, hobby, etc. It's just who you are. I get it. It takes a while. Seek the Lord's help first, and ask Him to show you the way. But ballet is the best it just morphs inside you - it makes you special! Stay positive and just try to keep moving forward <3

Hello, just found your channel. I have been taking adult ballet classes for about seven years currently I’m taking a workshop beginner workshop at the National Ballet Of Canada in Toronto every Sunday morning. I love it everyone that comes to the class. It’s just such a nice spirit good healthy vibes happy vibes, we’re there to have fun and learn more about Ballet and I have osteoarthritis in my right knees so it’s hard for me. I can’t really jump and I find that really frustrating for me but apart from that I love our teacher and I’m learning a lot I’m really lucky. Thank you.

How much stretchy elastic/ribbon do I know that I would need to ensure a good fit doing this wrap around method? The elastic ribbon I have is a really long piece so I’m not sure how to figure this out. Cutting it in two pieces for my daughters foot the pieces are still really long

This is genius. I’ve been using racket balls for years with my dance stuff and I’ve thought these peanut things look helpful, but every time I buy a foot tool or whatever, it’s never the right type of malleable… I think a softball, for example, would probably be uncomfortable for me… but if I taped racketballs together?!?! genius! 😂
@vermillion9nelson1883 ай бұрын
I love me a good peanut. Thankfully, my teacher also does conditioning so she has about 20 peanuts in different shapes and sizes. I think my favorite thing in my bag are the snacks I take for break - cookies, chips, brownies. You know.

I was trying to guess all throughout your intro what the tool might be! And even though I wasn’t expecting a deep dive on claw clips, I learnt something new about how to use them instead of pins which can be quite tight or intense in terms of “ballet mode”. Always a fan of the half hair up as well :) I agree that a mini foam roller is excellent. I haven’t thought of doing your method but I got a 2 euro rigid foam roller that is super light and firm. Also I do have balls lying all around for any trigger point release, like in my bag, at work, by my bed. Absolutely essential for chronic pain, which sounds like you also manage daily

The straps on your work bag are way too narrow, they cut into your shoulders that's why you feel the bag is heavy when it's not full. A bag that size should have straps that are at least 1" wide.

Another fun “podcast”. Thanks for sharing! Many companies now share videos of dancers during company class (e.g. World Ballet Day but also just snippets throughout the year). Do professional dancers like being filmed in class or does it feel like yet more pressure to the daily routine?
@GoldieJane3 ай бұрын
good question! It definitely depends on the person or what that ballet company has going on at that time. If the dancers have a killer rehearsal day after class...odds are the cameras might feel annoying to them lol

I'm an adult ballet dancer - started a few years ago at 25. At first I felt frustrated that I didn't start dancing when I was 5 years old, because I would be so much stronger and more flexible if I had. But now I realize that the adult ballet community is much, much more friendly and kind than the serious/professional ballet world. A lot of girls in my open classes who danced when they were teens have a bit of trauma attached to it. In the end I'm kind of grateful that I started later in life tbh. I'll take the healthy mindset over the flat turnout any day.

What a fun and warm video! Thank you for sharing Goldie. I’m an adult dancer and it was thanks to social media during COVID that ballet ever came on my radar, and I’m glad you feel the same way about the brave people who post their journeys I haven’t been on the same path as you, but understand the hesitation of wearing a leotard again. Last year I had an ankle injury and was prescribed time off. I did rehab with a teacher but never wore a bun or leotard in that time. As I slowly got better, I started wearing a bun again, which felt like a milestone when how I looked reflected how my body felt. And months later, a leotard but only with shorts or track pants (and I 100% love your ballet on top & normal person look below!) Now I’m up to leotard & bike shorts or black tights…sometimes with a skirt. But not yet at pink tight stage! Hope to keep hearing more about your return to ballet class! Once we strip away all the baggage that comes with ballet, it’s wonderful to just feel how therapeutic the movements can be PS Ballet Rosa is from Portugal and we’re lucky to get them in Australia as it’s a brand that seems to be well liked by adult dancers too

Hi Jane, I'm happy to share my story. At the age of 12, I decided that I wanted to start my balet journey. Unfortunately, my parents only signed me up for some of the cheapest general dance classes, because our financial situation was always very difficult. I didn't go there for long, I didn't like it very much. Then I tried to exercise at home and stretch... To take the exam at the state general ballet school. Unfortunately, I apply 2 years too late and I had no experience, but I also wrote an e-mail to the management right after the recruitment process! ehhh, all for nothing! I lost my only chance for a professional career. Later, as I grew up, I still dreamed of ballet... when I was 15, I managed to sign up for very cheap classes once, maybe twice a week at most. It was a baby ballet preparing for real lessons. I was 15 and the rest were 5-10, it was crazy! When I was 16, I went to my first job and that's where my actual ballet lessons really began. I went to them twice a week, and after a year I changed schools and it was a private ballet school, but the level was poor. However, I "managed" to experience some violence. Then I started taking part in a few performances and barely passed the exams for the next class. Unfortunately, the costs of study increased significantly, I had no support and I was tired of the atmosphere in the class and the teacher's behavior. So I left the "pro" path and took open classes for a year. During the holidays, I no longer had the strength to dance, I had a crisis and I worked a lot physically. I devoted any free time I had to getting my motorcycle driving license. In the fall of 2023, I went to the cinema to see our Polish production film, The Peasants, and I was absolutely in love with it and decided that it was a sign from God that I should take up folk dancing. After all, I always wanted to try it, but previously I didn't know how to approach it. Technology helped - the Instagram algorithm! I saw an ad for company recruitment. At 11 p.m. I wrote to my boss that I have to leave work early tomorrow to get there on time! I made it and stayed there for half a year. I just left. The atmosphere was terrible, the level was embarrassing, but it was not a waste of time. I wanted to move to a higher-ranking company, but recruitment is only in October and there are no more places for women. I thought it was another sign from heaven and that I would go back to ballet open classes, which I miss so much. Folk dancing and singing classes were free, which was a huge advantage, but they took a lot of time - they were long and I had to travel far. I have a dance school very close to me, so that's always a plus. I'll manage somehow and see what happens later. Ballet has always been and will be in my heart :)

It's interesting to hear your experience. I am surprised that the first day does not have some sort of orientation? also assigning a mentor for the new employee to help them navigate in the career and company structure a bit? The stress seems unnecessary, especially about taking a spot for the barre...

The first month of heels classes was sooo hard and my ego had been hurt so bad but eventually day by day it got better! Now I feel like that confidence is bleeding into my work in ballet professionally. Keep it up Goldie 🤍

Hi Goldie! I’m really enjoying your vlog series of coming back to ballet and dancing on your own terms! I think what you said about having adult hobbies is SO important - we need to be constantly trying and learning new things, otherwise how do we grow as people? Funnily enough ballet is that hobby for me! Do I look silly and stupid sometimes? Yes. Is it sometimes uncomfortable? Also yes. Does anyone else care? Absolutely NOT!! Doing something because you love it (rather than just because you’re good at it) is so fulfilling. Looking forward to your future vlogs!! ❤
