Cappuccilli's voice sounds so heavy and dull here. Not great. Verrett is beyond great! She literally defines this brutal role.

This has to be the greatest soprano/mettzosoprano ever lived. Thanks to KZbin I can listen,witch I did not had the possiblity to when she was activ on the International operas. Thank You!!!

Yes, she was very spectacular, even in her late career. She was 58 here. She flew back and forth from Venice to New York just for this gala.

If you watch Fracci and Nureyev in this role and then come back to this you will see how much more superior these two dancers are.Nureyev as good as he is overpowers the character he is playing, his acting is terrible.

I agree. I adored Rudi, but you're right, Peter's James is better acting. As for Fracci, she really hammed it up. To me her death scene in Sylphide is really overwrought. Eva's is subtle and heartbreaking. Not to mention how much better Eva's technique was.

It’s interesting to compare Maria Callas’s performance of this piece with Marian Anderson’s. Both are great - and different.

Vitellia was not for her - the part lay too low for her and she never had the low notes required for the role

Votre vidéo est la meilleure car l'on perçoit parfaitement les expressions du visage de cette diva. Le rythme endiablé prescrit par Verdi rend sa prestation encore supérieure à celle de Callas moins énergique.

I saw her in The Leaves Are Fading, in San Francisco sometime in the 70s. Unforgettable. She really did appear to float, and I remember the audience spontaneously gasped. It is such a shame that her Giselle was never filmed. It was said to be one for the ages. Martine van Hamel as Myrtha in the same production, another significant performance.
