I have a travel guitar that has a built in headphone amp… I wonder if it has enough output to go straight into the Move? Can you get a count in and metronome when recording to a pad? I have been using the iPhone app but what I found sucks is when you load a project into live via the cloud and make any changes to the sound or add midi to a clip (all within the 4 track preset) the project doesn’t update on the app (and I guess it would be the same on the move)… this means you can’t pedal back and forth between Live and Note to develope a track 😢

Is there an app that easily sort this out (preparing samples) so all you have to do is drop your samples to be used ?

Macros don't seem to work on the drum rack presets. I can't get it to either starting from their preset template (which seems to be somehow locked in terms of macros), or building my own preset from instrument rack, drum rack, etc. I guess this is just because it's setup to read the parameters from each drum sampler, rather than the overall instrument in this case. It would be great if they added a 'macro' page to the shift+main wheel parameter select list. Buut there are already a ton of things I'm hoping will come with some future FW updates. It definitely seems like they rushed it out the gate at 'minimum viable product'

Yea unfortunately drift are the only presets you can map macros to. There should be several banks of macros we can switch between and hopefully an update soon does that

Yes for all 16 pads in a drum rack you can switch each to chromatic mode and if you load up a sample in the key of c, then the scales even work

Do the smaller aux cords, transfer audio in lower quality than the bigger ones?

If you try to go from small to big with an adapter, you are losing some fidelity. I have a lot of gear that is 1/4 inch in which is bigger than the 1/8 inch out on push so I just would have preferred a 1/4 inch out to not have to use adapters.

One thing I’ve noticed is people seem to want a complete all in one device that can xyz everything. As anti climactic as it is, they’re looking for a computer. To me the Move has been an inviting device where I can purely focus on creating and getting a groove. You can take it as deep as you discover. I enjoy the tool for this aspect. If someone needs to have 32 tracks, 5+ plug in inserts, multiple I/O, 1 TB, a bigger screen, a VST suite, full arrangement, then homie you’re looking for a computer.

I agree 100% I tried so many different stand alone units OP1 Polyend Play etc. when I got my hands in the Move I was like wow! So easy to use and powerful. With future updates, watch out!

I suspect that the reason why the preset creation doesn't include wavetable is because the instrument itself is super-complex and they haven't fully finished the conversion methodology yet / not all of the parameters in the Ableton Live version are supported in Move. So rather than release a preset creation script that's buggy with wavetable in particular, they left it out. That's my theory at least

Not to nit-pick, but alot of the bugs listed are limitations or unimplemented features and not true bugs per-se. Still annoying. Still major issues... but not "bugs" in the sense of coding defects.

Why would anyone complain about the 3.5mm connection on such a tiny device? If it were 6.3mm, I'd need an adapter to use my headphones. Makes much more sense this way to me. Sorry, but more often than not I have the impression that people think they have to complain about _something_, so they find some quite absurd issues. This is how I see it. I absolutely love the device.

I just have a lot of 1/4 inch gear that would be great to connect with our adapters. Adapting up is worse than adapting down imo

Nah, dont add big MIDI sockets or quarter jack inputs/outputs to the Move lineup. The Audio Input jack could become TRS midi jacks, so I feel the design shoud stay clean.

I mean an extra 1/4 inch or even 1/8 inch out would be nice but yea for sure no midi sockets, the usb port actually comes in clutch so often especially bc it can supply power

Anyone with lots of external gear would love to be able to connect Move directly via MIDI DIN or MINI TRS. The handheld Dirtywave M8 is fucking TINY and has better IO than the Move 😂... And arguably a (slightly) better speaker too. I think Move is great - especially considering the price, but it's IO is a little disappointing. Additional ports on the back wouldn't necessarily change the look of the device... If the M8 (a device MUCH smaller than Move) can accommodate MIDI in and out, Mic/line in and out + USB C (including USB MIDI and audio IN/OUT over USB) then SURELY Move could have been built with such support, without any changes to the size or overall design. I think Ableton probably omitted these features to keep it at this lower price point.

I’ve been using mine since release and I think you’re on the money with this. It’s become my favourite groovebox as I’ve had so much fun using it. The sound quality outperforms many similar devices, easily. I think you’re right about the macro control for synths: we need 16 macros really. And timestretching!

@JohnMark61355 only samples in a drum sampler have the ability to pan. If you navigate to the filter and setup bank from a sample loaded into a drum rack, the sample panning is one of the last knobs. In drum racks you have two banks of knobs that you can switch between

If you think a Circuit Tracks has a high learning curve.. The only text you got on the Move is on the screen. Meaning that if you're not coming from Ableton you probably have no clue what each icon means. The Circuits don't have a screen. This makes editing the synths without an editor or extra controller almost impossible but it's still more than Move has to offer. Also why compare the OP-1 price wise with the rest. Everyone knows you pay for the brand not the tech. Makes no sense to include the OP-1 other than trying to make Move look cheap. A couple updates could make it better? Yeah duh that's the case with every piece of gear. (It's why I still haven't bought a Digitakt II) There are so many limitations on the Move. Not by accident but by design. It's not cheap at 450,- either compared to what other offer. In the 7 minutes you hardly review anything and stayed pretty much on the surface. Why not make real comparisons with other gear? The Move is designed as a gateway into the Ableton eco system. As a standalone device it's very limited. Try making a full song or doing a live set on the Move and than compare that using a Circuit. Move is a 450,- joke that can better be invested in other gear. I would advise everyone to not buy it or at least wait till they've updated it. In the meantime you could buy a second hand Circuit Tracks + Circuit Rhythm for probably less.

I see your points, and I’ve used the Novations extensively, but there isn’t any device in this price range that comes close to the overall sound quality and intuitive design of the Move. At its price, it’s a bargain - There are devices costing more than twice as much that don’t sound as good as the Move. For me, it’s the best groovebox I own because I’ve made more good music on it in just one month than all my others in 1 year. It’s endlessly inspiring.

Mines been sent back. 2019 $30 processor isn’t going to help much with updates. Move 2 with 8 tracks and more control over the synths then yeah I might take a second look. Starting songs on it to move into live - might as well use the cheap phone app note. Does the same thing. Yeah it’s fun but not a tool that’s going to help in writing a professional track. Just start in live and be done with it. Mobile? Get a cheap laptop with a launchpad. Just my take of course but it wasn’t for me. It also drains a laptop battery in controller mode btw.

@@Marco-ek8wu the whole point of grooveboxes is they *aren’t* laptops. They have physical knobs and feedback. Not really a comparison worth making to be honest.

@ it’s not a groove box. It’s supposed to be an ideas generator to move into live. ableton note in hardware. That’s Ableton vision anyhow. Akai MPC one is a better option at this price point if you’re after a groovebox capable of finishing tracks and midi integration.

@@Marco-ek8wu It’s 100% a groovebox my friend - It also has the capability to move ideas into Ableton which is fantastic. I own the MPC Live 2 and I really like it, but the interface and workflow are very slow and clunky by comparison to the move, although the additional sampling features are very nice. But we’re comparing apples to oranges, as the Move has more of a synth focus, whereas the MPC is obviously a sampler at its core.

It’s so cool that the instruments are full fledged Ableton devices. Think of that. Not like other limited patches presents of you-don’t-know-what. Thrills me every time I start Move that whatever I come up with, if I like it, I can only improve it. If there is a need to. One time I did and made perfect synth sound I wish any analogue synth I have could produce. Move rocks! 🎉

I know there are SP-494 fans, no offense to them. But that thing is HUGE. Not sure why it even known as portable. My OP-Z is smaller and therefore less playable. Move just perfect.

@ +1 on more presets and more devices. I bet it just needs time. I also wish Live can be put into Move compatibility mode. So we can tweak Move project in DAW and then just send whole thing back to mobile platform 😎

Yeah and you can transfer to push 3 too from Ableton . Move Ableton then push 3. That's what I do but instead use note

@@FrenchtownMediathere is an available option to make and send presets. It’s still under development but they have information on the Ableton site about how to enable it, how to configure the racks, what effects work. Definitely possible!

No hot key just hover above the wav in the timeline at the top and you should be able to drag up/down or something like that can’t remember exactly but for sure no hotkey

@FrenchtownMedia Frankly, I don't think they expected people will be resampling full tracks / phrases and use that to achieve more than 4 tracks. I think they're surprised and confused because Move was supposed to be a 4 tracks, 8 bars loop sketchpad to sell Live licenses, but people are using it as a standalone groovebox to produce almost full tracks.

Is the Move able to seamlessly record, loop and layer audio played into it without interruption like Live can? E.g., can you record a guitar riff, hit another 'clip' pad, and be recording in another layer onto that whilst the other one plays back? If so, can they be of different lengths? Not looking for a looper for performance, but looking to quickly jot down ideas and layer them up in different combinations to see what works.

Totally, that’s kind of what I was using it for when recording guitar in the short. If you want playback while recording you will be locked to a single tempo. But you can record any length clip up to 4 minutes into a single pad. You can then use the start and end controls to make the recording loopable. I am currently working on a video to showcase the looping ability of the move. Basically you can turn one or several tracks into a 16 track looper using the drum rack. Coming soon!

Really appreciate the detailed and thoughtful response. :- ) I don't understand why people are so negative about the Move, it's shockingly capable for a self-contained and intuitive musical sketchpad. It's literally what I hoped the iZotope Spire was going to be in terms of workflow. What's not to love? I think this has tipped me over the edge with getting one.

Awesome tips! Man, just make separate vid that resamples 3 synth/instrument tracks patterns to few drum pads, releasing instruments for new tracks (saving project copy for MIDI). This one thing will clear things, stop haters whining, turn confused/potential new users to unconfused 😊

Yes at the moment I’m working on a video to demonstrate how to record loops into a drum rack allowing 16 loops to play simultaneously while still giving access to 3 more tracks. Hypothetically you could do this for all 4 tracks for a total of 64 loops
