I put two cups of uncooked rice into my IP without the inner pot in place. That was the end of that IP as it was impossible to get the rice out and the risk of fire was too great.

Would you consider getting a stainless steel air frying basket to replace the one from Instant Pot that has PFAS?
@billybofh23633 күн бұрын
Thanks for this! I might dig mine out of the cupboard again and see if it'll behave. I only really use it for cooking dried beans as it's so prone to giving me a burn notice for everything else. I de-glaze, I use (to my eyes!) enough liquid - it's a mystery. Maybe I need to make much runnier dishes in it then thicken them up afterwards. Anyway - you've inspired me to give it one last go! 🙂
@CookingandCalm2 күн бұрын
Glad it was helpful and good luck. If you've done everything else, maybe try a replacement seal. It's possible the water is escaping and it's going dry despite putting enough in at the beginning. And yes, good idea, try more water then use saute to simmer it off at the end. Interested in how it goes 👍

We have 4 different size air fryers including an air fryer oven, and have had our mini (luckily found a light blue version here in California!) for 4 years and love it! So handy, easy to use and everything comes out delicious. Extra-convenient for when you have smaller meals to make, and don’t need to use a full-size air fryer,

Over the years, I've put water in my Instant Pot without the inner pot being in place 2 or 3 times. Once or twice, that caused the circuit breaker or fuse to flip. I just unplug it, turn the pot over, remove the bottom panel, and let the internals dry out for a few days. Then, I reverse the steps and proceed to use it again as normal. Members of a Facebook Instant Pot group recommended this to me. Surprisingly, I've barely had any accumulations in that "condensation collector" and haven't felt I had to switch out the inner pressure gasket between uses with sweet or savory dishes. Thanks for this video. The KZbin recommendation algorithm sent me here (it doing so should be good for your channel).

Thanks Julia. For sauté , to prevent burning to the pot, always pre-heat before putting in the food or oils. This is the same for all stainless steel - heating helps 'close pores' on the stainless steel. If you do get a burn, I find soaking for a few hours before washing up tends to help. I hope that helps. 👍

Thank you for your detailed reviews. I didn't like the tall lid so much in the Duo but having a hinged lid that's not as easy to clean and the entire pot gets hefty since the lid isn't removable breaks the deal.

@CookingandCalm4 күн бұрын
Hi Agnes, do you know, I'm not sure but just checked in my Instant Pot Pro Crisp Manual and it says this about tuning the beeps on and off : "When in Standby mode, press and hold + over Time until the display indicates S On (sound on) or SOFF (sound off).Note: Error alerts cannot be silenced" From my interpretation, that means the pot should still beep as the burn notice is an error alert. Hope that helps

Hello, I was wonndeing how long this will store in a sealed container and if it would be better to add the chicken as we go along. We are a small family and it normally takes a few days to get through soups. I could make a smaller batch, but I feel its a waste. Also I had a burn notice after a using it for a year, totally my fault, I didnt deglaze the bottom properly and our butter chicken currry had to be thrown away. I love pressure cooking and your channel has been so helpful thank you. x
@CookingandCalm8 күн бұрын
Hi there, with chicken I'd say 3-4 days in the fridge if you are using your own chicken and it's well sealed ( or it can be refrozen once cooked too). I say 'your own' not meaning you need to be a homesteader or chicken farmer, but just to distinguish it from pre-cooked rotisserie chicken bought from the store as that tends to have a very short shelf life. Ah yes, we all get caught by the burn notice - just one of those things that's part of using an electric pressure cooker. I hope you were kind to yourself and had something nice to eat after the chicken had left the building 😊

The main problem that I've had with the instant pot is that when coming up to pressure sometimes the float valve doesn't come up properly and I end up having to jiggle the lid about for it to come up.. So what can happen if you're not careful Is that you end up with the the room filled with steam and a pressure cooker with no water In it with burned food.. Well, that's been my experience with the instant pot duo 7 in one which I purchased in 2016. Now it's all well and good if you are stood over it when it comes up to pressure but I have no confidence in going out and leaving it to come on automatically I just wondered if you've had a similar problem and if you find one model with I assume a different lid better with regards to this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
@CookingandCalm8 күн бұрын
Hi Dennis and thanks for sharing that - I'm sorry to hear that. It must take some of the joy out of using it. No I've never had that happen with the Instant Pots I've had. It sounds like the float valve or something between the different sealing mechanisms isn't quite interacting correctly. If you haven't already done this, I'd take the lid apart (including that little rubber cap that holds the float valve in the lid) and give it all a good clean and soak on the off-chance there's something microscopic and sticky hanging around somewhere hidden. If you've already done all of that, it could be worth asking Instant Pot as maybe they can suggest a likely root cause and offer a replacement part if so (you never know!). I don't set the pressure cooker away and then leave home - for me it's more about not needing to be there when it finishes and being able to get on with other things at home. That Duo model was my first model of Instant Pot too - it's ages since I've used it but it's the only not in use that I haven't yet donated. I keep meaning to but I'm a bit sentimental about it! In terms of the rest of the models and reliability, I've had good experience with all of them I've had except the Ultimate Lid ( I don't recommend that one). I hope that helps and your IP gets sorted out or you get a new one you like 👍

Ah no, sorry, they're not compatible between models as far as I know 😕 - having said that there have been so many new models recently , things could have changed so for 100%, ask the Instant Pot people. Hi what would be the better option the PRO 8L or the PRO CRİSP? İs there things missing except for the yoghurt button?
@CookingandCalm8 күн бұрын
The Pro Crisp has a removable air fryer lid and accessories so it does pressure cooking and air frying, dehydrating , grilling/baking etc (and a fair bit more expensive) . It's a great device if you need all in one and don't have an air fryer, though I still think stand alone air fryers are better. The Pro 8L I think is like my 6L and has more features relating to pressure cooking and customising to your own way of cooking but it can't air fry etc . I don't have the Pro 8L so do check on the Instant Pot Site where they usually have a 'side by side' list of functions you can compare hidden away somewhere. I hope that helps.

Hi Susan - I'm currently researching the various IP options before I purchase, and your videos are very helpful. My questions though - You're on your 5th IP in 7 years time. Do they keep breaking or do you have a stable of IPs that meet different needs? What's your experience on the longevity of these appliances? TIA for the help and thank you for your very informative videos! 🙏
@CookingandCalm14 күн бұрын
Hi there, yes I have a small IP stable 😉. I bought my first 6L Duo when that was the only model and it blew me away, so when the UK version of Duo Crisp came out I bought that straight away to do my batch cooking (I got the larger one) and because I was so keen on that air fryer lid. After that, I started the youtube channel and I have bought more models partly in response to requests to review them here, and partly because I just love a gadget 🤣 and I'm always in search of that perfect Instant Pot. I still have my first Duo (sentimental reasons - I will likely donate that soon as we've moved house and have little storage here), the Evo I gave to my sister after I bought the 'Ultimate Lid' - this Ultimate Lid is the only one that 'broke' on me and I returned to the shop. I don't recommend that one now as lots of others have reported problems too. As best as I can remember, I just don't hear problems on the other models except where someone has put on the stove and melted it accidentally etc. That can happen to any of us ! The two I have on active duty are the Instant Pot Pro and the Instant Pot Pro Crisp. I am a big fan of the new style inner pots which is why I love these two. The Pro 6L is a great 'everyday' pot for us and the Pro Crisp is my larger one (8L) for batch cooks and also, again, because for me I love especially roast chicken with the combo pressure cook and air fry method. I tend to swap between the two dependent on what's going on seasonally and what my favourite things to cook are at any time. I've experienced excellent longevity with all that I've owned and I always seem to be able to get the spare sealing rings, inner pots etc for these models. I didn't get the same with the Ultimate Lid and also I've recently tried the 'big Ninja' which seems very hard to get spares for. The noise of that was driving us mad so I've put it away for now but will review eventually for the channel. I hope that helps a bit - I've not tried any of those newer models as my stable is full right now but I'm sure others have on youtube. In my opinion, IP are making too many new models as it has become so confusing (and it was already quite bad). There tend to be IP official facebook groups for Instant Pot Users in many countries and they can be a good place to get a sense of what's working for people too.

Hi there, my favourite tends to change and it does depend on how you like to cook to some extent. I also haven't tried out so many of the models so I can only speak to the ones I've owned. But here goes...I'd say today as I write this , the Instant Pot Pro Crisp is my favourite- this is because it's large size and I do a lot of batch cooking, has the new version of the pot with handles which I love and I like the air fryer lid as I cook roast chicken a lot and it does a great job. If it wasn't for the chicken roasting, I think the Instant Pot Pro and a separate drawer style air fryer is a great set up. ( I'm lucky enough to have a drawer style air fryer too and generally rate them better). For the model I've had that's lasted years, I found the Instant Pot Duo Crisp to be really brilliant but I donated it when I got the Pro version with the new inner pot. The only model I've had any trouble with is the Instant Pot Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid and I don't recommend that one. Hope that helps :)
