His info about the Falklands medal is slightly incorrect it was awarded to all who served Recipients were awarded the medal with a rosette for serving one day in the Falklands or their dependencies, or in the South Atlantic between 35° and 60° South latitude. They could also receive the medal with a rosette for at least one operational sortie south of Ascension Island between April 2 and June 14, 1982.

12:08 No British Serviceman was awarded the Clasp "South Vietnam" British born perhaps, but there were no British military awarded the campaign medal. No, not even the Royal Marines providing embassy security in the SVN capital. If there is evidence, I would love to see it, as the official medal roll has been released and each name is 100% attributed, beyond doubt, to Enlisted and commissioned troops of Australian/New Zealand forces. 12:26 The South Atlantic Medal - One did not need to be landed on the Islands at all! The Sailors of the Royal navy who were afloat on HMS Conquerer, who sank the Belgrano, never set foot on the Islands. They have the medal with Rosette and the Black Buck crew of the Vulcan bomber which bombed the Argentinian Airfield also rec'd the medal with rosette and none of them set foot on the Islands... Is he really an expert? To apply for the South Atlantic Medal and rosette , you must have either: one day of service in the Falkland Islands or their dependencies, or in the South Atlantic, south of 35 south and north of 60 south before 14 June 1982 one operational sortie south of Ascension Island before 14 June 1982 To apply for the South Atlantic Medal without the rosette, you must have: 30 days service or more in the South Atlantic, south of 7 south and north of 60 south completed service no later than 21 October 1982 www.gov.uk/guidance/medals-campaigns-descriptions-and-eligibility#post-world-war-2-campaign-medals

Wasn’t there a Kenya medal for the Mau Mau campaign in the Nineteen Fifties? A yellow ribbon with, I think, narrow dark green stripes which was the ribbon previously used on a medal for a campaign in Africa many years before

Would all the medals been issues to “next of kin” in reverse order? Question, I wish to wear my late uncles medals, would i get them mounted in reverse order? Great videos.
@mrfitba3 ай бұрын
Thank you. My first question relates to my wife’s great uncle that was shot down off Malta in 1943. He died on active service and would never had the opportunity to wear his medals issued. His medals would have been issued to his mother, his next of kin, my wife’s great grand mother. In this video you mention that the medals were issued in reverse order “to his wife” this is the exact scenario with my wife’s great uncle. Would i get them mounted in reverse order, as that may have been way they would have been issued. Sorry for the extra clarification. Norman

In 1955 when I got my G.S.M. with Malaya Clasp/bar it came in a white cardboard box with my No, Rank and Name hand written on the box. The Medal was inscribed round the edge with my details, I also had an R.A.F. Pro forma detailing my award.

German and Soviet medals are much much nicer in design.
@t.wcharles21716 ай бұрын
Well, it depends. These are campaign medals, which the Soviets and Germans had, and these were generally pretty bland with similar designs across the board.

Fascinating. Sadly there are NO names on the medals OR the boxes of Jubilee medals that we received in the Ambulance service. I guess the same will be for the Kings Coronation Medal when it finally arrives

It was a sign of distinction for Australian soldiers (ANZAC's) to have the 1914-15 Star because it signified they fought at Gallipoli and were originators of the ANZAC tradition....

The ‘Mons Star’ was the 1914 Star with clasp and was awarded for being within range of the enemy mobile artillery between the dates of 5th August to 22nd November which meant you were an Old Contemptible. Others received The 14 Star without clasp. This was not explained. Source. The Mons Star by David Ascoli.
