Best video on tuning the vm22. Nobody else talks about if you adjust the screw on the bottom and nothing significant happens. I found out the hard way that the brass screw is non removable and if you try to remove it and find out that you can't, if you try to screw it back in you will cross thread it and destroy the threads. I had to purchase a new vm22

I couldn’t agree more; not wanting to change its handling characteristics played a big part in trying my Drop-Drag Link solution vs a Rack and Pinion. If your engine has a front sump you might get away with the OEM link, but then you’re having to work the bar as a lower constraint vs the bellhousing/tunnel as the upper. And then you have to work the drivetrain angle to match the fixed rear pinion angle too…. It gets tight real quick. Good luck with your swap, thanks for supporting the channel!

I think we may do either the driveshaft or transmission tunnel reconstruction next. What’s your vote? Thanks for supporting the channel!

Ever since Dr. Ackermann crawled out of the primordial hotrod soup, he and his cousin Bumpsteer have vexed simple minded mortals. Just when you think you have mastered Doc’s notions, a bitchslap hits from nowhere. While I think your solution will work, I first felt (strongly) that the new yoke would tend to sway front to back. Not a nice midnight dance sway, but a sudden WTF?! dance step difficult to to follow. But. But after seeing the rod ends placed on the SIDES of the Donner Passesque link, my thoughts changed. This sideways attachment may negate or minimize the chances of putting the whole thing in the ditch. The rack seems to rise as it approaches lock. This probably happens to the stock rack as well. It seems to me that you may have something! Testing will be in order. Doc’s geometry is a bit allusive at best. Paper modeling will prove fruitless I am afraid. A really smart guy - crooked, but smart - once built several cars for me. He worked closely with Chrysler for decades. They had a new model. Colt I think. Anyhow, this guy built top quality race cars and turned this Colt into a monster 1/4 mile car. He had to swap from a drag link to a leading link. This, of course means everything is now backwards. The car debuted at Mile High in CO. It was a predictable failure as a winner. But the car won Best Engineered. What is my point? I haven’t the slightest idea. If a crook from Arkansas can figure this shit out? So can you. Let the rubber hit the road! See how that bitch acts. You too may achieve Best Engineered. If not? Rack and pinion. TEXAS!

Question. For a straight valve 212 engine, ((being ran for normal industrial use at 3,600 on the original governor.)) With dedicated fuel of propane, 105/110 octane is normal for LPG. How much can a head be shaved with a change to a 0.010 head gasket. Without being under the 0.080 space rule? . Also. awesome video, thank you for taking the time to make it.
@bahnzai73135 ай бұрын
A lot. I’d be reluctant to give a specific number without measuring what’s there, but really, a lot. Easily 100 thou, although you’re going to either need shorter pushrods or to shim the rocker pedestals to get the geometry right again. Keep in mind, the straight valve motors are generally 020 in the hole, with a dished piston, and a cam that is only lifting .220 or something with minimal duration; valve to piston clearance is not going to be an issue unless you take a really enormous cut on the head. Also, if it’s a straight valve the head gasket is already 009 or 010; only the Hemi’s got that 040 fiber gasket, so adjust your calculations accordingly. I’m curious what the goal would be in cutting the head in an industrial LPG application. Adding HP? Routine rebuilding? What are we doing here? Thanks for the kind feedback, we appreciate the support. Like, share, subscribe!! Cheers.

@@bahnzai7313 its a wood splitter and it lives out side in a coastal environment, under a tarp. that regularly hits the dew point. the cost of ethanol free is around $6 propane is $2.60 Even with the ethanol free, im still dealing with water in tank every spring. From the condensation. Even with a drained tank. . Other then that recovering some of the lost hp from using LP. combined with a increase in work load from a change from a 11gpm to a 16 gpm pump. So yea more hp, LOL. . The other small detail is. it was originally sold as an engine with the 2" water pump. The water pump died and i repurpose it. I dont think that makes any difference, but mabe one piston type over the other is all i can think of.

Are crankshafts interchangeable?
@bahnzai73135 ай бұрын
Kind of…. You would need to use the correct flywheel for the crankshaft, as the tapers are different between the Hemi and Straight Valve, but otherwise you’re good to go. Rod journal size is the same, as are the case bearing diameters. As always, check your end-play and adjust with the side cover gasket thickness if necessary, but otherwise it’s a bolt-in.

Resto modding a lot of the old school rides make a lot of sense. Affordability, safety, handling, being able to move with traffic- I have a '76 Valiant that looks like grandma's "Bingo Hall Hunter" but has a full chassis stiffening, 12" rotors up front, 11.2" rotors on back (8.75" axle), Bergman Auto Craft front steering & suspension, rear is JRSpring XHD V8 springs with a Firm Feel rear sway bar, tranny is an iron-case A-833 OD (factory Hurst shifter, lol), the engine is the factory-supplied 318; but with much more modern "308" cast heads (fast-burn, bigger valves), I-beam forged rods, KB pistons (9.45-1 compression), '70 vintage 340 forged crank, windage tray, Performer Air Gap intake, TBC headers w/2.5" dual exhaust/X-crossover, cooling is a 26" HD cooling radiator set up from a '73 Swinger that had AC & trailer towing package. I've used it for doing a TDS rally (2324.6 miles), towed a trailer, drive it around town with my cattle dog riding along, get groceries...not going to live forever, people react positively to it, and it's just a fun car to drive
