God this really shows that executives really ruin art.

Good video as always! Love this show so much. Famous for its BAD ENDs for the villains

53:11 When I first watched RETURN OF THE JOKER, it sadly was the censored version where the original Joker dies in an explosion, rather than impaled Tim with his “Bang” gun. Thankfully, the true version streams on Max and got to see it in its full glory there years later.

Benefit of being an Australian fan with crappy internet? I knew nothing about the turbulence behind the scenes or even how the fans were annoyed by those comments. I was just excited for more Stargate. I really, REALLY love the concept of stranded, ill-prepared, and undersupplied people. The intriguing nature of Destiny's mission (revealed WAY too late into the second season in my humble opinion) and the array of wild sci-fi conflicts, both in existential and physical form, made for some compelling sci-fi tv. I came for the sci-fi, but boy oh boy I stuck around for the DRAMA. The forced intimacy and clashing personalities made for some really awesome characters and moments. I am frustrated beyond sanity that SGU was axed without having the opportunity to grow beyond the desperate survival/find a way home narrative threads that carried so much of the first and second season. Plus, THAT ending smarts more than anything else. What happened to Eli?

That "lead singer" was the late, great Wayne Static, of Static-X. RIP.

53:55 I'd love to know why you think the twist is contrived. I think it's set up perfectly and is logical. They didn't force the twist at all

26:54 “Disappearing Inque” was my introduction to BATMAN BEYOND (and TBH Batman in general), though I wouldn’t check out the series in its entirety until years later… and it was a bit traumatizing. I was four years old and had a teen babysitter watching me. The only kid shows I was allowed to watch were the ones on PBS so all the superhero stuff of my childhood, I missed out on. This was the episode she was watching and I remember being disturbed by Inque breaking apart in the climax and screaming in terror. Quite disturbing and gruesome for a four year old to witness as it has lived in my head rent-free since.

Honestly I've grown a little tired of batman story for live action, i think we reached a point that we could do live action batman beyond pretty easily and faithfully.

You know the creators knew Classic Batman by the back of their hand by having his final act before he quits being the use of a firearm.

How could anyone complain about the length of the shuttle to Enterprise scene? Every moment spent looking at that beautiful ship is treasured. I say extend it to 10 minutes!

From my own perspective this is the best of the 'top ten ST TOS series yet. My 'top ten' would only vary SLIGHTLY (including Space Seed, Mirror, Mirror and The City on the Edge of Forever as #5,6,7). Yes 'Doomsday Machine' is a perfect Star Trek. T.O.S. is the best ST IMHO. Once remastered it has aged less than the once more modern TNG because of it's freshness and originality, the strength of the original crew and actors and that 1960's CAN DO, 'no fear' spirit.

Meltdown is an episode that really stuck with me over the years, especially the part where Victor kills the female scientist coldly stating "Remember, there may be some momentary discomfort."

No mention of Epilogue, and no mention of the story behind Return Of The Joker's original censorship? Really? Seems like two huge omissions for a "retrospective".

@48:43 actually that's incorrect. The lead singer in that music video/track is Wayne Static from the band Static X not the lead singer from Mephisto Odyssey as you say. Wayne Static was famous for his crazy straight up tall hairstyles.

There was one episode of Batman Beyond you forgot. It was exclusive to JLU, an episode called Epilogue, that shows an older Terry having to deal with a Bruce Wayne who has grown older and dealing with Amanda Waller. The episode had a contrived plot in general, but it was also a strong one that demonstrated that Batman was more than just beating up bad guys, and showing that Terry had moved beyond what Bruce thought he could never have; a life that isn't just Batman.

This show kicked ass. I remember wanting to see it the night of the premiere but my parents had to go to a function and they couldn't get a babysitter but luckily the house we went to their kids were hyped to see it, and were watching it upstairs right on time been friends with them ever since. This is a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts I'll say what held it back if anything was Terry's rogues weren't anywhere near as interesting or felt like weak derivatives of Bruce's rogues and some of best episodes were call back imo. The main reason this worked was because of Terry and his dynamic with juggling his life basically it's Batman but he also kinda like Spiderman I'm glad you brought up the plot hole in The Call, it was unclear as to why Starro would allow Superman go to Gotham That Return of the Joker flashback is still so disturbing to this day I'm still on the fence about the whole Bruce is Terry's biological dad thing, It was an interesting idea but overall it doesn't really work

When I was a kid watching this on DVD, I would hear the Zod line, "We shall have revenge upon..." Except, I heard "we shall have revenge upon Aljayla" or "Al Jayla." I never understand what Zod meant. Only, years later on Blu-Ray with closed captions did I understand that they were referring to "our jailer."

I hope you make a retrospective for the movies like you did for Star Trek. Mask of Phantasm and Return of the Joker are two of the best superhero movies put there. Sub Zero wasnt half bad either. Mystery of the Batwoman is the only one I would say that was weak. . .

Batman Beyond on paper should have never worked in now way shape or form but it did. Making the character now as part of the legacy of the comics themselves, many still want a full theatrical film of Batman Beyond
