I get your point, but the reality is that stocks are not guaranteed to appreciate that much. Plus there are hardly any compounding interest savings account in the UK. But thanks for sharing this.

Am I being thick, you say you can take 20k out per year, but your calculator relied on you putting 20k back in over the year to make the extra money gains over that year, so surely your gains are zero if you take 20k ? I'm fully on-board with investing by the way, I just feel on the face of it your maths doesn't work in the real world or am I missing something?

No problem to explain. With compound interest model in this example of say 8% Year on Year Growth, the investments will "top themselves back up" growing that amount again by the end of the next year. Hope that makes more sense and great question to check.

I understand compound interest however if you look at your calculator in the video you will see that in order for the value to top itself back up you HAVE to contribute 20k the same year that you take £20k out otherwise the calculator example you have used doesnt work because its compounding based on annual 20k contributions, the lump sum will continue to compound for sure but I’m questioning if the year you take your 20k out in the 8th year will get back to where it was if you dont put £20k back in because you have removed too much of the lump sum that’s my point. Think of it this way if you take 20k out and dont pay £20k in that year you are now 40k down at the end of the year 🤷♂️you will gain your 8% but its based on the lump sum less 40k. From year 8 to year 9 you only gain 4k in extra interest, and that’s based on you adding another 20k that year

First of all, thanks for your video! Nevertheless, i got a question. when i use the compounding interest calculator, at the end of the date i type, i got a total value, a total amount of interests and a total amount of invested capital. However, let's assume that i invest in the iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF Acc (CSP1.L) where the dividens or interests are reinvested automatically. In this case, may i obtain the interests amount by doing "total invested (capital + reinvestments) - total invested capital (by me)"? I don't know if you understand what i want to say. I would like to know it because it's said that people could live off interests generated by the investment in an ETF.... Thanks again and i wait for your answer.
