This was an EXCELLENT video - so concise and informative. Isobaric is really the spelling of the term in English, with a 'c'. Isobarik with a 'k' is the name of a loudspeaker by the Linn company. Question: would there be any sonic benefit in usingTWO Isobaric woofers in series (two parallel configurations in series). The cone surface area would be doubled, the compliance halved, the impedance the same as one, the moving mass still only twice in this config, even though it's physically four times? How should I think about this? All the best from Switzerland, Rob

That is an expensive woofer. There are more "predictable" brands out there for less money. Like someone else mentioned, always countersink the drivers. If you admit that rounding the edges of the enclosure, you must understand thaat countersinking the drivers can improve this.

I have built hundreds of isobaric enclosures throughout my 30+ year career in mobile entertainment and I can confidently say that I have never built even one enclosure that looked anything like any of the ones built in this video. Still enjoyed the video, and appreciate your content.

When I was a child I built a speaker out of a gasoline (pvc) canister. The driver I took from a broken tape recorder. We were poor. Also: I just subbed because the channel is great. Kudos to you.

I have recently design 3 way sytem with subwoofer. 120 RMS woofers 8OHM 88 db, Mid range Full range speaker 40W 8Ohm 88Db, Tweeter 8Ohm 40W unknown DB. 12DB 3 way crossover. I noticed some High freequency spikes it was adjusted electronically in the pre amp section. My Woofer 61Hz resonance and box ported type designed for 40 Hz. Subwoofer Infinity 121W in a closed box driven by 400 W class D amp also have active crossover in the pre amp section. It is not a fully functional crossover but we can adjust using presets arrangement. Bellow 60 Hz I noticed a dip bellow 60 Hz and that graph fatensout till 35 -40 Hz then falls sharply bellow 40 Hz. I don't have a calibrated mic but mobile phone mic and Android app for freequency measurements. I do confirm my graph accuracy using a branded polk audio system. Because I have limited resources. System perfomace very nice I am following your channel so I am able to design a music system with satisfying out put. I tuned the sub to perform bellow the 60Hz. So the overall trend become flat from 40 Hz. Entire system including Power amp cost Rs. 20000 Indian rupees. Amplifier front panels I designed myself and laser cut on acrylic sheet. Left and right 100W Toshiba 5200 transistor AB type with 10 Band equaliser pre amp (Built in). 400W class D for sub channel. Speaker protection (DC protection, start-up delay) using relay switches were installed. 27-0-27 8Amp EI core transfotmer I wind by hand. It works well for me. There was a slight humming sound in the background. It was due to the cooling fan. So i connected it through a seperate 12Volt smps hence problem rectified.

Usb mics can be use with top end avrs and processors,( also with rew of course), where xlr-audio interface mics cannot be use. So whats the better choice is depend to where you wanna using them for.

way back in 1999, i had 1 12" pheonix gold xmax in a 1cubic foot sealed box running off a 400watt mtx amp, mtx crossover and a kenwood excelon head unit and that 1 sub absolutely hammered, i mean i could be heard over 1/4 mile away across a field according to my friends, it was sick!

Hey, I would like to build this sub. I have a question tho: I heard the HE version of the 12SW-4 is better in basically every aspect. But is the HE version even compatible with that enclosure? If not, what should I change?

Qtc=1.6? No wonder car subwoofers sound terrible. I've never actually heard a good one, but then, I never went looking. I only get to hear the complete rubbish ones driving around my neighborhood waking everybody up at 2am. They're really lucky nobody takes a shot at them.

As a side note, I had seen by experimenting that the Mms parameter listed from manufacturers is usually close to the derived one via DATs or audio card jigs with REW. Which is useful as we can avoid the sticky added mass method. Just specify mass to DATS along with diameter to get the full test results. Do your own tests of added mass vs spec sheet specified mass methods on few woofers to decide if reliable.

Thank you another great video and for testing stuff that is available on EU markets. I have a question. You test for resistance, conductivity and discard ones made of steel etc. but in the end you use ferrule? What ferrules are made of and what about their impact on connectivity? Also are these confirmed to prevent oxidation over time? I know that some people instead of ferrule would use silver solder to "bond" and protect strands from oxidation before inserting htem into banana plugs. I would imagine that it would have better effect than a ferrule? Could you please let us know what are your thought on the subject? EDIT: Ok I did some reading and apparently ferrules are meant to prevent oxidation :). Also these can be made from copper or brass and coated with tin or whatever else :) - do you know of any good source of copper coated with something good? :) Or can you list a link to the ones you are using if you know what these are made of? There is no link in your parts list. Thanks again.

Ports or passive radiators do not extend frequency response. Ports supply a” drone tone” at the tuning frequency. This means if I apply a 25 Hz test tone, the speaker will emit that frequency, but the port will emit the box tuning frequency. A microphone only measures pressure, so it adds the drone tone pressure of the “wrong frequency” with the speaker driver output of the correct frequency. The box is a helmholtz resonator.

17:29 why would you even want to do this? Aren't those peaks better addressed with convolution EQ? That way you can get slightly better energy efficiency because you drive your subwoofer less when it is playing those frequencies. Why fight the physical efficiency? That is not even mentioning the fact that you probably want to keep that lower peak
