I bet all these people here who remember the good old days have conveniently forgotten the greasers and beatniks that ended up bringing the cool stuff into the world. Attempt to the bring those "good old fashioned" values of the 1950s in, and I'm sure there will be a revival of those counterculture groups with their hip black outfits, cool roaring motorcycles, deep philosophical art and poetry, and true personal freedom to just let your hair down and not be restricted by community expectations. And so I ask... where were you to stop them and their influence in the first place? Did you try to censor the literature of Kerouac, Snyder and Ginsburg? Or boycott the movies of James Dean? Did you ever stop to think why such culture actually appealed to your children of the 1960s and 1970s?

I love the family time of this era. I however was annoyed that the son got to study and the daughter did dinner chores. Thankfully, there’s been progression in that way. I do believe we need to bring some 50’s lifestyle with eg no phones, internet, iPads etc etc to spend time together as a family each night. Especially as a lot of jobs these days aren’t 9-5pm. Old values are rare these days. We need to revisit and implement these into our modern lives.

I was born in 1953. In our little neighborhood we had a butcher, a couple of bakeries, several funeral homes, three Catholic churches, three Catholic elementary schools, one Catholic boys' high school, and a public elementary school. There was one Baptist church and another church but I don't remember the denomination. There were a lot of corner bars where the men would have a brew before going home from their factory jobs. There were little family owned corner grocery stores. When my stay at home mom went "big" grocery shopping, she went to the A&P. Our neighbor was the local pharmacist. He was always up to date about new meds. We even had a neighborhood center that had a gym and library. Across the street was the movie theater. I remember going to see "101 Cartoons" on Saturdays so my mom could get us out of her hair. We walked or took our bikes to the park and in the summer we swam in the public pool. In the winter, we went ice skating at the public outdoor rink. The churches had youth groups that were a lot of fun and got us involved in charitable work. It was a safe, great time to live, never to be seen again.

It's quite interesting to see mail delivered in a helicopter . Doing that now would be very uneconomical, and out of this world
