I use this as a commuter and as bad as the brakes really are...I have had to come to a quick stop once or twice and they will screech the tires when they need to

Key words picked up from your vide, "Terrible brake, will change to hydraulic disc brake, adjusted drivetrain, saddle is okay- but will replace." So, basically if you are not comfortable fixing bikes beyond basics, perhaps not a good choice rather spend more and get the real one...
@terrycruise-zd5tw25 күн бұрын
i dont understand why walmart and other bigbox stores sell anything more than 1x drivetrain lol, like what is the purpose for that? people who buy from walmart already wont know how to adjust a real derailauer but then they add a front one too LOL.anyone who wants a roadbike with 2x+ will not buy walmart shite anyway

I changed the brake pads and also changed the seat and seat post (I had a pretty messed up trek fx that I kept for parts and used that really great seat). My tires are doing fine so I guess I’ll keep them for a while, then I’ll take your advice and get some better tires. Thanks for the video.

It's a good bike, no doubt. My personal specimen had a wonky front derailleur, so I replaced it with the corresponding Shimano Tourney unit for '20 off Fleabay. It's been flawless since.

that tourney is sweet i agree .. 3x7 here .. on a fitness/comfort hybrid schwinn thing 😂

My first Explorer had the wonky front derailleur (bent, honestly) AND a warped chainring. There was no possible way to adjust it where the chain wasn't scraping the derailleur at some point. On top of that, it was a medium and apparently I'm too much of a short king for that. Returned it, bought a small *in box* this time, and it's been flawless so far. Coming from my Fuel EX 8, I can't tell you how much I want to rip these garbage mechanical brakes off. Even the MT200s we put on my brother's OT Ridge are lightyears ahead of these. Justifying the cost of replacing basically everything is hard though, especially when you consider the $248 price tag of the bike itself. Still, I concur, it's quite good for the price, but the quality control is lacking (especially the Chinese ones; the Taiwanese Ridges seem to be much better).
@terrycruise-zd5tw25 күн бұрын
its crap lol, it has a 6 speed derailauer on a 7speed. bad gear ratio so youll suck going up hills, its heavy at 30+lbs, has a freewheel in the year 2024 LOL and a nitpick is the crank length so youll have to be careful with pedal scraping when turning
@WayneSmith-zx3tf25 күн бұрын
@@terrycruise-zd5tw Rear derailleur works like magic. Bike weighs 29 lbs., goes up hills just fine. As good as my Cannondale Synapse? No, but thanks for playing.

It's worth pointing out that when you speak of upgrading to hydraulic disc brakes, there's a problem with drop bar bikes that you don't have with a mountain bike -- you have to change out the levers as well. Since the levers are always both how you shift and how you brake, and since the levers are specific to either hydraulic or mechanical brakes. And then the problem with doing that is that you have to make sure that your shifters still work with your derailleurs. It's the kind of headache that you just don't experience in mountain bike land that really took me by surprise.
@offshorebear2 ай бұрын
I put cable actuated hydraulic brakes on my G1 and it was probably the best upgrade I have done. They are about 45 bucks on amazon. No squealing and I can lock up the wheels with decent modulation. Not perfect, but I think the best upgrade for the price on this bike.

Agreed they make great tires. I have gone back to the rocket rons which are not that affordable but, they roll quicker than the reckons / reckons races and they have more grip. I wish they would go a little wider than 2.35
@barfo2812 ай бұрын
Also: Specialized has been making tires for longer than they have been making bikes. They used to be a parts importer, but started making their own tires, then other components, then their own complete bikes.

@downcountrynation4 ай бұрын
A good rule of thumb is every 10mm of travel added, your head tube is slackened 0.5 degrees. My head tube angle is slackened to 67 degrees with 120mm of travel. Thanks for the comment, I hope that answered your question.

I've run both and my main reason I prefer my candy 3 and egg beater 3's is snow ice other muck is less of a problem for them. Also the egg beater have great clearance and keeps most people from trying to pedal off on your bike🤣. They do have different feel but you can move around with Shimano's offering and the are more adjustable. Float does depend your setup and yes can move around a bit more with Crankbrothers. Have You played around with how you have them set up cleat and cleat position wise?

The entry models are poorly equipped. There are FS bikes out there almost 1K cheaper with the same level of equipment. And the Comp for 3.4K... you can buy a carbon bike with similar specs. But I understand that Specialized is generally some steps above in general frame quality. I have an Enduro and the frame, paint and finish quality are second to none. I understand that such high quality as to be payed.
@BoxCarBoy124 ай бұрын
You are for sure paying for the frame with this Chisel. If it's truly the lightest aluminum FS frame and doesn't have any reliability issues down the line, that is definitely worth something and would be something that I'd compromise and take a slightly worse build kit for. That said, besides direct to consumer brands like Canyon, Polygon, and Commencal where are you seeing those bikes with better parts for the price that you mentioned? At first glance to me the Chisel build kits actually seem appropriate if not amazing for their prices
@ArturPereiraMTB4 ай бұрын
@@BoxCarBoy12 the Chisel is not very differently priced to similarly products from other brands. It's more a question of brand preference than any other matter. But, yes, better prices come mainly from directly consumer brands like the ones you've mentioned and specially one other German brand that I don't know if you are familiar with which is Radon Bikes. Their bikes are one of the better priced on the market concerning their builds. Go and chek their Radon Skeen Trail Alu and Carbon (120mm/130mm), which I would say that it is the most close to the Chisel, and the Radon Slide Trail for a more couchenning140mm/150mm of travel.

Seems like you should have more views and subscribers... Also, perhaps someone will read this since it's the only comment. I am old enough to have used toe clips on a bike in a race. And I just think it's silly to call them "clipless". Things should be named for what they have instead of what they don't have. And we definitely clip in to the clipless pedals... Most of them are more like pedal-less clips actually.

@downcountrynation9 ай бұрын
Hello, I’m not entirely sure how to install DUB cranksets. I used two spacers on mine, but it may be different from yours. Basically the spacers are used to align your chainring with your cassette. I hope that sort of helped. Good luck on the install. I’ve heard DUB is a good system. Happy trails

Before I joined nica, I rode a specialized fuse, pretty rowdy hardtail trail bike, but then when I joined nica, I noticed that the bike was kind of slow because it had 2.8 inch plus tires, And the rims that it came with were not tubeless kind of weird, so then I threw on some carbon bars and a set of i9 wheels with Schwalbe racing ray and racing ralph tires on it, the second I got on the bike after I threw all of that stuff on I dropped like 3 pounds of the bike and began seeing massive improvements, the bike almost resembled a downcountry bike because it has 130 mil of travel and a components that almost resembled a xc bike. Also, congrats on going to regionals, I qualified just couldn't make the trip up there.
