Subbed. Good info I’m gonna check my local store for one.

10/10 review, king. So tru about the brakes

I changed the brake pads and also changed the seat and seat post (I had a pretty messed up trek fx that I kept for parts and used that really great seat). My tires are doing fine so I guess I’ll keep them for a while, then I’ll take your advice and get some better tires. Thanks for the video.

The stock brakes on my G1 Explorer are great! They stop on a dime! It did take me awhile to get them to work correctly though.

I've been trying to dial them in properly over the past week

It's worth pointing out that when you speak of upgrading to hydraulic disc brakes, there's a problem with drop bar bikes that you don't have with a mountain bike -- you have to change out the levers as well. Since the levers are always both how you shift and how you brake, and since the levers are specific to either hydraulic or mechanical brakes. And then the problem with doing that is that you have to make sure that your shifters still work with your derailleurs. It's the kind of headache that you just don't experience in mountain bike land that really took me by surprise.

I put cable actuated hydraulic brakes on my G1 and it was probably the best upgrade I have done. They are about 45 bucks on amazon. No squealing and I can lock up the wheels with decent modulation. Not perfect, but I think the best upgrade for the price on this bike.

Thanks for the input! Could you leave a link? I’d like to try those for myself.

Btw, what specific model tires and wheels from specialized? A list of what upgrades to buy would help newbies like me.

Thanks for the subscription! I’m not sure what model Specialized tire I’ll be trying yet, I’ll probably be posting a video of the installation on my channel soon. I also hope to be documenting the entire upgrade process so that should be able to help some people who may need some advice on what are good upgrade options. Really glad you liked the video and appreciate the feedback. -Desmond

Need a follow-up on changing the brake

It's a good bike, no doubt. My personal specimen had a wonky front derailleur, so I replaced it with the corresponding Shimano Tourney unit for '20 off Fleabay. It's been flawless since.

that tourney is sweet i agree .. 3x7 here .. on a fitness/comfort hybrid schwinn thing 😂

My first Explorer had the wonky front derailleur (bent, honestly) AND a warped chainring. There was no possible way to adjust it where the chain wasn't scraping the derailleur at some point. On top of that, it was a medium and apparently I'm too much of a short king for that. Returned it, bought a small *in box* this time, and it's been flawless so far. Coming from my Fuel EX 8, I can't tell you how much I want to rip these garbage mechanical brakes off. Even the MT200s we put on my brother's OT Ridge are lightyears ahead of these. Justifying the cost of replacing basically everything is hard though, especially when you consider the $248 price tag of the bike itself. Still, I concur, it's quite good for the price, but the quality control is lacking (especially the Chinese ones; the Taiwanese Ridges seem to be much better).

its crap lol, it has a 6 speed derailauer on a 7speed. bad gear ratio so youll suck going up hills, its heavy at 30+lbs, has a freewheel in the year 2024 LOL and a nitpick is the crank length so youll have to be careful with pedal scraping when turning
@WayneSmith-zx3tf25 күн бұрын
@@terrycruise-zd5tw Rear derailleur works like magic. Bike weighs 29 lbs., goes up hills just fine. As good as my Cannondale Synapse? No, but thanks for playing.
@terrycruise-zd5tw24 күн бұрын
@@WayneSmith-zx3tf 29 pounds is heavy af for a gravel bike. they should weigh about 30 with panniers and and full kit. no granny gear for carrying stuff either

I use this as a commuter and as bad as the brakes really are...I have had to come to a quick stop once or twice and they will screech the tires when they need to

Ride a mile with the brakes slightly engaged (burnishing) then hold on so you dont go over the bars when braking….

Key words picked up from your vide, "Terrible brake, will change to hydraulic disc brake, adjusted drivetrain, saddle is okay- but will replace." So, basically if you are not comfortable fixing bikes beyond basics, perhaps not a good choice rather spend more and get the real one...
@terrycruise-zd5tw25 күн бұрын
i dont understand why walmart and other bigbox stores sell anything more than 1x drivetrain lol, like what is the purpose for that? people who buy from walmart already wont know how to adjust a real derailauer but then they add a front one too LOL.anyone who wants a roadbike with 2x+ will not buy walmart shite anyway

The only problem I have with this bike is that it doesn't come in size large.
