honestly thought there would be way more information for the runtime of this video but it was too much delirious cackling especially near the end where it should have been the most interesting

I lived in a cult community for a short time as a child. My mother is still a residing member of that cult. Much of the eclectic components of the cults you have presented are the foundation of the beliefs of the cult my mother is emersed in. Thank you for the video.

I get this comment sometimes, but it’s important to keep in mind that Kim Il Sung, like Marx, used the terms interchangeably a lot. Officially though, North Korea considers itself a socialist state, as per its constitution.

Unfortunately there’s no single, organized resource that has all of them. I have an excel document with links to the majority of the videos, so if there’s any in particular you’d like to watch I can share em!

I'd like to coin the term "metacult" as being an amalgamation of all the crazy fringe cult groups into one global supercult, united only in their hatred for outsiders, while - of course - entirely missing the irony.( Ever noticed how un-ironic those cults are? Irony deficient)

Unfortunately, there’s no reliable or verifiable source on the topic, and foreign track records on celebrity deaths in North Korea are pretty abysmal.

I'm two hours in. And when you started talking about him doing the most reasonable thing, I was like. Oh, is this when we get to the kidnapping thing? Because I watched a Rotten Mango video on that one and that's the source of all my knowledge on North Korean films prior to watching this.

Socialism bastardized itself through every country it was attempted in. Seriously, not a single attempt without strong inhumane dictatorship and terrible mincing of the country's culture. And all my ancestors of two generations are from different Soviet Union republics, you don't want to not slander the worst ideology on the planet.

The history section had a few disrespectful parts imho. While I commend you for doing the minimum of touching on the atrocities inflicted by America and Japan to establish context for the North Korean cultural zeitgeist, it brushes over just as much to maintain the overall narrative of the entirety of North Korean cultural output as the product of Kim Il Sung. In particular, the video's portrayal of violence against colonial policing force as savage rather than necessary is bad; glossing over the actions of the South Korean government and widespread massacres in the leadup to the Korean war; and hesitance to show the brutality of the genocide conducted by the US in North Korea in order to not stray from imagery of American air power that not only are American audiences desensitized to but are often proud of. In particular, the Americans in Teen Guerilla Force are not "comically evil" according to some propaganda effort, that was genuinely the conduct of Americans in the war. They came up with a slur for Asians because they thought the way their heads split open when ran over with tank treads looked funny. Edit: tbc though it is still very accurate to say that this sequence of events were what allowed Kim Il Sung to solidify his cult of personality and establish a dominant authoritarian grip on the country, but the most effective propaganda always contains an element of truth. And in this case, it was the portrayal of the conduct of Korea's enemies and the necessity and bare reality of resistance that spoke deeply to North Koreans. And of course, the theses of these movies were all "and then Kim Il Sung was the answer". Not even socialism, as you covered in the later section which was really interesting- socialism is no good if it's not Kim Il Sung's socialism, naturally.

Hey I really loved this video! The last part about Mr. Rogers made me tear up a bit (even I've never watched him I did see a movie about him that put me in the verge of crying) and I really loved how much effort and gratitude you put into the credits section, it felt like an actual person thanking everyone. Also p.d. the Dan Schneider situation didn't really age well but it was still a good vid! :)

I think that even stumbling through a name is more respectful than not even saying it. If you took 18 months to study this stuff it seems a little silly to not even have a rudimentary ability to pronounce the names. Saying "sorry" just seems quite a bit disrespectful, like you didn't even care to try.
