HP 48 may be slower, with less apps but way easier to use (less key strokes for all functions). I have a HP Prime and it sits gathering dust. It is so easy to do either Base or Unit conversion on the HP48. There are so many key entries for simple unit or base conversion, it is just a joke!
@scottcollins7513Ай бұрын
The Prime lacked elegance in my view. Great technology, but lacks the cohesiveness of the 28/48 calculators. That might just be b/c I am the wrong generation for it. Sounds like your experience is similar. Thanks for weighing in on the conversation.
@bicqtranАй бұрын
@@scottcollins7513 The Prime is a Windows GUI math app masquerading as a calculator on a small screen . There is no reason for a calculator to have a drop down menu with multiple layers to call a function. Prime fails to be a decent math app (for that I can use either MatLab or Octave) or a good calculator. As a calculator hp48 reigns supreme with its simplicity and elegance of layout.

It would be more accurate to say the Sharp solves for zero. As such instead of typing: 2x=3 You can do: (2x)-(3) It'll solve it.
@scottcollins7513Ай бұрын
My DM42 works the same way as the Sharp. It works fine even if it is a touch less literal. If you are strong in math, you can make any of these calculators do the job. But, if you are a high school student for whom math is not your natural "language", then the more straight-forward and literal the calculator is, the better. Thanks for the comments. @scottcollins7513 That's the beauty of math, isn't it?

The Sharp has a massive advantage: It's overclockable. There's an external timing resistor. Change that resistor and you can speed up or slow down the calculator.

That is not something I would have ever thought about. Like the "turbo" button on a 90s PC. The Sharp gets little attention in the US, but it is a respectable calculator w/ a nice keyboard. Thanks for leaving the comment.

YES. I think the fx-115ES Plus 2nd Edition would make a good backup. I actually prefer it over the 991EX, but I doubt most people would. The other thought would see about buying a 991EX used off ebay.

Nice demo. This is obviously a design flaw by Casio. I think to be 100% sure one should always use parenthesis to avoid confusing the calculator and double check you work. I think 991ex is still the king of the Casio lineup.
@scottcollins7513Ай бұрын
Thank you for leaving the kind words. Yes, using parentheses for everything is the safest route, but what a headache. 991EX is the best in this price range in terms of performance and quality. Just realized you had more in your list. If you take good care of your things, can afford the additional $40 w/out too much pain, and if it is something you will still be using 5 years from now, I think the TI-30X Pro MultiPrint would be the best. If value is highest priority, I would choose either the 115ES Plus 2nd Ed or the TI-36X Pro. 991 CW would be my last choice, but it is still respectable.

Thanks for leaving a comment -- agree that it is quite simple to do without a calculator, but that is coming from a math nerd. A few questions: 1 - Do you live in a country where the TI-30X Pro MathPrint (make sure it is a "MathPrint") is available for around the same price? Even though I have traditionally preferred CASIO (and even SHARP), I like the TI best for this type of calculator. But, if your only option is the TI-36X Pro, it is less compelling b/c it is just an old design. 2 - Would you prefer the benefit fewer keystrokes to get to the answer at the cost of being less user-friendly? Or, do you like the benefit of user-friendly at the cost of things taking more keystrokes to answer? My personal GENERAL preference would be: 1st - TI-30X Pro MathPrint 2nd - CASIO fx-115ES PLUS 2nd Edition 3rd - CASIO fx-991EX 4th - TI-36X Pro My personal PRECALC-specific preference would be: 1st - TI-30X Pro MathPrint 2nd - CASIO fx-991EX 3rd - CASIO fx-991CW 4th - CASIO fx-115ES PLUS 2nd Edition
