Nice vid! On the Prime you can use the command "time(whatever)" and it will return the time in seconds to perform any calculation. i.e: time(factor(x^100-1)) It will depends also if you have "complex" checked or not on CAS mode.

Had no idea it could do that. Good to know. Thanks for the comment.

Ah! Ah! From my point of view, all these five calculators give an instant result. My old and reliable HP-15C need more than 8 minutes to give me this result at full precision (FIX 9 format). If I am in a hurry, I can get an approximation in less than a minute, but only three decimals are trustfully compute.
@scottcollins7513

I appreciate the humor -- that all of these are relatively instantaneous when compared with the HP-15C.

quand cette calculatrice brillait dans les classes, j'avais encore des cheveux et ne savais pas encore ce qu'était un ordinateur. 8 minutes, bigre ! bonne journée C.Ret ;)

There are a lot of CAS and it is difficult to compare performance on only one example on different hardware. The difference between thé calculator today 2022 is the performance of the CAS and thé possibility of setting it. This IS an important point revealed by this excellent video. Thanks
@scottcollins7513
@scottcollins7513 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Gerard. Obviously, a single example is not very scientific, but it does definitely point out how vastly different the performance can be between similarly-priced calculators (not including the hp Prime). Thank you for leaving a comment.

Speed is important but not everything. The Casio ClassWiz and the TI-36XPRO are still the 2 best non-graphing calculators. This is because they are the only 2 that will let you “Solve within solve.” What I mean is on either of these machines you can still access the integration function or the differentiation function in the linear solver. The Casio 115ES Plus won’t let you do this. Even some graphing calculators won’t let you do this. This is the one capability that makes the Casio ClassWiz and TI-36PRO unbeatable as far as advanced applications are concerned.

This is an interesting point I have never explored, but I can see where you might want to use the calculator to, for example, determine what upper bound of a definite integral will result in a specified result (area under the curve). Thanks for pointing this out. Might be worth a video at some point.

It sure seems that way. I almost called it the 'hp "Optimus" Prime' in the summary at the end because it is such a beast.

You have a Casio fx-991CW that did it in approximately 1 second? That's significantly faster than the fx-991EX Classwiz. Impressive.

HP 15C Collectors Edition, full precision (FIX 9) done in about 4.5 seconds. Swiss Micros' DM15 (HP 15C original firmware running an emulator as hardware) running at 48MHz does it in almost 26 seconds. My old HP 42s does it in 49 seconds (similar precision as the HP 15C there at 1E-09) Free42 (an HP 42s simulator) on my smartphone does it instantly on 1E-09 precision, I pushed the precision to 1E-30 and it was done in half a second. Smartphones rule these days.

What about fx911es plus Casio
@scottcollins7513
@scottcollins7513 Жыл бұрын
They do not sell that exact model in the US, but my understanding is that our fx-115ES PLUS is the same (I showed the "2nd edition" in my video). I would expect the fx-991ES PLUS to perform similarly -- in the 14 seconds range. Not great in this respect, but it is still a great little calculator.
