Why didn't you Brits do a detailed documentary on the Opium War? Show that first and this series afterward.

Fantastic stuff, although it must be at least 1975 as that is when HM visited HK.

Crims...they never forego a chance to garner a bit of sympathy and spin a BS story. Interesting video, it would have been a great time for a British copper to work in HK.

Was in Hong 1971-74, old man was 3rd Tanks posted to RHKR as a PSI. I was a junior leader with RHKR's J Sqn had many a great memory including driving saladins, ferrets and saracns up and down the Sek Kong airfield. I was there during Rose and watched the Queen Eleizabeth burn in Hon Kong Harbour. Was pretty much the time of my life.

I was in Sek kong in 1966 with B Sqdn 1st Royal Tank Regt. We were the last Tank regt stationed there being replaced by Saladin armoured cars. I remember Sha Tau Kok and Kam Tin. We could get $HK50 and a bottle of Guiness to donate a pint of blood then go to the China Fleet Club to spend it. Great days. Joe Farrell. 78 yrs old.

The past can be forgiven but not be forgotten. Don't let history repeat itself. The past events bring into effect the present situation - which in turn will lead into the future.

One of my uncles swam across from China and was picked up by the Hong Kong police. My father had fled China just before the border had closed and had contacts in the HK police so when my uncle was picked up, they immediately informed my father that they had picked up his brother.

@@lfarru yes, he was allowed to stay and later moved to the uk. The HK police was very sympathetic to people who fled China in those early days.

I love your videos, can't believe there are English speaking people that are interested in this subject. I'm from Hong Kong, but born after the handover, I regret not experiencing this in Hong Kong, it was the golden age of Hong Kong, also the most chaotic. I love it, but now it's just........ no words, I can't complain.

Brilliant series in its day although hearing that magistrate @22.50 call all unemployed of the day lazy etc, was totally unacceptable not all unemployed back then could help their situation and looked very hard for employment. So hopefully the pompous fool, has learnt his lesson by now. Thanks for the upload 💯💯💯👍👍👍
