As a serving police officer, I worked on the border throughout 1972. My stations included Sha Tau Kok and Man Kam To. This was the happiest year of my 28 year career. I went on to serve with the Tactical Unit, which is also shown here. Thanks for posting this, Ben - it's brought back many happy memories.

Is it true CCP troops have small scale boarder clash with the UK military/ police during the 1960s period?

@@tongzijun In 1967, five police officers were killed at the border village of Sha Tau Kok when they came under automatic gunfire from the Chinese side of the border. The official line was that it was the local civilian militia but there is strong evidence that the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army was heavily involved. My book, 'Hong Kong Police Inside the Lines,' describes the event through the eyes of four people who were there and who came under fire.

Hi Mr.Emmett, I read your wonderful ( it is hilarious and detailed police work/ event analysis ) book " Royal Hong Kong Police" and I feel bad you retired in 1998 as a SSP! I know you love HK because it had completely changed your course of life, so why not stay a few more year for the rank of ACP?! Are you back in UK or still in HK? I left HK in 1995 for Canada; it was my biggest mistake of my life!!!

@@shahonchen6661 Hello there. Thanks for your kind comments about my book. My second one, 'Hong Kong Police Inside the Lines,' was a bit more serious. I loved my time in the police but family pressures meant a return to the UK in 1998. I feel the modern HK police did wonderful job during the 2019 riots and I'm sad that the Western press and Western politicians took up the version of the rioters.

Was in Hong 1971-74, old man was 3rd Tanks posted to RHKR as a PSI. I was a junior leader with RHKR's J Sqn had many a great memory including driving saladins, ferrets and saracns up and down the Sek Kong airfield. I was there during Rose and watched the Queen Eleizabeth burn in Hon Kong Harbour. Was pretty much the time of my life.

I was in Sek kong in 1966 with B Sqdn 1st Royal Tank Regt. We were the last Tank regt stationed there being replaced by Saladin armoured cars. I remember Sha Tau Kok and Kam Tin. We could get $HK50 and a bottle of Guiness to donate a pint of blood then go to the China Fleet Club to spend it. Great days. Joe Farrell. 78 yrs old.

Unfortunately, no way! Sadly, today, there are more criminal-policemen in the Hong Kong police force than ordinary criminals not belongs to the force! The recent horrendous Abby Choi dismembered case was committed by an ex-HK Cop ( a staff sergeant ) with a very " complicated background "; he raped a woman who had reported a crime at his station, but he wasn't charged but simply resign and the case was closed. The case happened ( in 2003 ? or at least after 1997 ) when the current CEO of HK was his district ( Mong Kok ) commander! Think about this " relation "!
