I agree! Very successful for his first time around so many busy things. You are so special Timber. I love the way he leans into you when he needs a little reassurance.

It's good when you see dogs improve, they often just need positive reinforcement, and to understand when they are doing something wrong . I got my current dog 2 years past March and he was past 2 and a half at the time, born 6 months before lockdown and lived remote with not much socialising. He was also 20 weeks in kennels in the year before I got him due to owners business trips. Just walking him in my town was a problem to begin with due to traffic noise, a train station, people and dogs etc. He would go into fight mode constantly with any big or dark coloured dog (mostly) approaching, sometimes even people dressed in dark clothes and wearing hats. Rottweilers and black labs were a real problem and still are bar a few he is used to seeing regularly. He's a Havanese but would have no problem fighting any big dog so I am still very careful with him. He's much better now and gets off the lead with other dogs often in certain places (sometimes 10 dogs at a time) and has made lots of friends. I look after a few dogs sometimes for people locally and he's fine with them in the house and garden. It took a good 6 months of training, positive reinforcement and discipline but he's happy and well-behaved now (90%)... I am lucky there are some good spots to walk him off the lead where I can see what is coming and get him on a lead if I think he'll be a problem. But the difference in his temperament is staggering really.

Thanks for the update on Steel. I've been concerned about him and wondering what had happened. I fell in love with him instantly when I started seeing your videos. He reminds me so much of my rescue Malinois Ellie who I lost to cancer in February. She had a lot of challenges as well, but a heart of gold and incredible strength and intelligence as he obviously does. I'm so glad he has you to care about him during this period in his life and I hope you're able to find him a great home sometime soon. I truly wish it could be mine! Kudos to you for having heart for these dogs. Steel certainly loves you very much. Peace to you both.

Thank you for all your hard work and patience with Steel. It can be a long road but in the end it will have been worth it. Wonderful news about Vader and looking forward to more news on Timber. Thank you again for your dedication to these dogs.

Yo, ive got a video diary for my dog too! She was supposed to become a service dog but failed it and is also a rescue, i got her off craiglist. Nice seeing others following the video diary route trust me the memories will forever be saved <3 I'd like to add that my dog got attacked several times too though including recently so, more training for us...I need that high vis "I need space thing though...it would be useful...

The fact that you need 2 leashes to control your dog says alot. The dog should follow you and not lead you. Watch cesar milan videos to have your dog follow you. Dog seems dominant and over excited.
@-touya_todoroki
@-touya_todoroki 2 ай бұрын
No, Cesar actually gets it wrong he doesn't pay attention to the dogs body language even when they submit. The second leash is likely just because they are super strong it allows the handler to not get dragged down for example. It's more for keeping everyone safe including the dog then it is for control, that's what the head/primary one is for, thw seocnd basicly just gives more leverage if they lunge or pull to something during training if something unexpected happens
@kellyalves756
@kellyalves756 2 ай бұрын
@@-touya_todorokiAlso, he’s still in training. You don’t drop the second leash until he’s a lot closer to mastering leash protocol. As for Caesar Milan (???) his shows condense weeks of work into an hour. He probably has ways of scaffolding and transitioning new pupils, too.
@kerriedavis4774
@kerriedavis4774 Ай бұрын
He's a dog in rescue, this kind man is helping the dogs by giving them exposure to new things. I don't know him but I'd imagine the second lead is a precaution against escaping. It's a slip lead so he can't back out of it, whereas he could back out of a halter or harness if he really wanted to.
@-touya_todoroki
@-touya_todoroki Ай бұрын
@@kellyalves756 I've literally watched him harass a dog into growling snapping whimpering with its tail tucked into a corner because the dog was "aggressive" and called it training when the dog stopped but was shaking with eye whites and a tucked tail which btw is called withheld emotions that end up in a dog taking a chunky out of someone instead of say just a nip or small bite or barely cutting in bite. He didn't stop with the dog submitted and went on to traumatize the said dog he regularly does this kinda thing. Dogs are pack animals with a strong sense of justice, over correction and lack of teaching even in negative based training will do nothing to teach a dog.

I’m so glad I stumbled upon this channel. I feel so much for Steel. He reminds me of my 2yo GSD Murphy, very similar issues with reactivity, anxiety, restlessness, stress etc. & although Murphy isn’t a rescue, he didn’t have a lot of great experiences when my brother previously had him. I also empathise with your experience of dealing with Steel. Your channel is so refreshing & makes me feel better about the work I’m doing with Murphy, seeing that there are other GSDs out there dealing with the same things. I’m still trying to find the best way to walk him as he pulls so hard that I need to get my dad to walk him. It’s difficult trying to help a GSD when I struggle with chronic pain & I don’t have cooperation from the other person that lives with us when it comes to sticking to training. Mixed messages for Murphy is the thing making it all 10x harder but unfortunately I can’t change that person & how they interact with the world so I just need to do the best I can to help Murphy be the best GSD he can be 😊

During that long period of time while he was sitting next to you after taking a nap I think he was more than calm and peaceful. I think he wanted to share a special time with you. Of course calm and peaceful was what made it possible to see that he might want that with you. It is remarkable to see him make changes within himself. (I hope my comments are placed with the right video. I'm not at all sure though. Either the second or the third is the one I was aiming for.)

Nice Walk, like the vest....I have 11-month-old, very chilled calm mastiff, who is now starting to get pissed of with all the cock-poos/small dogs barking at him as we calmly go about our walks.....im in a built-up area, we walk past the cafes/shops and they come running out at us, he is now getting very strong, and if he goes they going be minced meat....we walk nicely, past other dogs, even when there dumb owners have them on long leads, glued to there mobile phones, .. then they start barking as they get near us..... he's to big to move, once he turns/ stands his ground, so I comfort him, stroking his side, then move him on. all the best.
