The weird thing about this is that it’s what got me into cool big mecha suits/robots. I saw all of the comparisons to Metal Gear Solid in the games magazines I saw at the time. Therefore, the actual game never released and that may have been disappointing but I do credit it with introducing me to one of the best single player game franchises of all time, in my opinion.

They had a patent, so it was real. It has since expired however.

It was real but required a beefy soundcard or something. Back in 2007 it was very taxing on a system from what I remember being told, but I do believe it was real. Sadly it's not included in the game files I have access to.

@@KevinOsterkilde i doubt it, too many red flags in the gdc tech demo. "lets activate the system" saying that makes no sense, when he yells at the shark you can see it's mouth open to "react" to the players voice but it's pretty obviously shot from the left, you can see blood come out. the biggest offender is the lack of a change in audio when listening to the two different people. Why can we hear the 1st persons voice through the system? Obviously we wouldn't be able to unless switching over to the other player, but that doesn't happen as the ambiance track never has an abrupt change. Of course the entire audio system could have been built to be heard by a 3rd party but i'd put more money on the guess that it's just smoke and mirrors like 95% of tech demos are and that's perfectly fine. I totally believe they could have built or even did build an audio system that has immersive qualities but what we heard was most likely just messing with the audio taken from the recording.

Thanks for archiving all this stuff! Even today this demo looks quite impressive. It's a shame what happened to the whole project, maybe one day we'll get maybe not a resurrection, but at least some kind of spiritual successor to this game.

Man what happened to this project, it looked so promising. I never understood why the game wasn't developed towards feature completion along the lines of this demo, instead of the weird discombobulated thing the Unity/Steam version became. Even if simple and small in scope, an evolution of this demo turned full game with complete mechanics would've been a great start to this IP
