Engine is not running al to good, its more 4 stroking than actually 2 stroking. In other words, carb probably needs some reajusting and a new plug wouldn't hurt. Other than that very cool machine :)

That engine seems destined for another type of machine, it is pretty but between the weight and burns it must have been a party.
@TheOldyWorldy3 күн бұрын
The engine is a villiers 2f, usually seen on motorcycles of that era, after a while my arms know about it 💪
@paradiselost9946Күн бұрын
villiers was a generic engine, used in almost everything at the time in the commonwealth countries... lawnmowers, rotary hoes, motorbikes...

Thanks for the video. The 2 stroke Allen Scythe a friend of my parents had in the 60s had a crude Governor that worked by cutting out the ignition spark ! So if you left the throttle too far open it wasted a lot of fuel which i think you are aware of. Unbelieveably crude way to govern an engines speed. I don't know if later 2 stroke models had a more sophisticated Governor that worked on the throttle. When I asked a `grown up' (I was only about 10) why increasing the throttle didn't increase the engine's speed he gave me a bs answer `it's the way the engine is tuned' because he didn't know 😂😂
@TheOldyWorldy3 күн бұрын
Thats how the governor on my machine is, its a small weight and spring on the flywheel and is adjustable, its crude but works! it runs erratic if given full throttle, so its best to set the revs for what its cutting.

Now, if we could just get all the manufacturers now, look at how good they did it back then the transmission for the bar is outright genius like I think all the major manufacturers need to take a page out of the spec sheet for this thing because if you come across stuff from the 30s the 40s and 50s or maybe even before that if it was taken care of, I’ve seen stuff like this like a sing a singer, sewing machine, matter fact, speaking of sewing machine, my grandmother had a few of those old black singers, sewing machines from way back in. They had the footpedal also and still work to this day, but like I was saying if you come across stuff that was built good from a reputable company a long time ago whoever had it took care of it. They still work today like time never had an effect on them, but yes bravo that’s a nice humdinger of a saw
@TheOldyWorldyАй бұрын
Couldn't agree with you more, the quality of those machines back in the day far exceeds anything today, i have stripped the gearbox on this chainsaw but on another saw, the danarm whipper, (spoiler alert haha ) which shares everything but the engine, and the quality of engineering is fantastic, and i also have 2 singer sewing machines, and again, still work, still used frequently and are about 120 years old. another great thing about the old stuff, is when its not in use, it just looks so cool.

A once familiar sight and sound on building sites up and down the land. When you stop it just lift the priming lever up. I have an original Fuel Tank, straps, Blocks, Cap and Strainer for a PH, ready to fit.

@TheOldyWorldy3 ай бұрын
not when in use, if you oil/grease it then all the dirt sticks to the moving parts and wears them out faster, its lighly oiled when being stored for long periods
